Hey guys!

I have a 2009 Hyundai i30 Comfort ... turning to you for help!

I have purchased a 16GB HPV165 Flash Drive that will not play in my i30.

I have formatted this to FAT32 to no avail .....  I saw one the same in a previous post Lorin had one in his car and it worked fine ... Lorin if you are reading this, do you have any suggestions?

It works perfect in my friends Vauxhall and in my household hifi just not the car.

I have tried another make of 16GB belonging to a friend, but it works, just can't understand why this one doesnt.

I also have a 8GB version of this that works fine ... would really just love to have all my music on a 16GB!  I have tried it in another i30 vehicle and it's not working there either so I know it's not just my Car!

Has anyone any advice?

Hiya Skippy :)

Good to see you dipping your toe in after all this time :P

In the recent past I've used HP 4gb and HP 8gb drives (both model V165) with success, but haven't tried a 16gb version. Sorry. Have you tried formatting it as exFat just to see?

Thanks mate!  ... yeah tried that as well, still nothing..... just frustrating!

I know I can get another 16GB stick easily but I like this one as it is so small it is no visible whenever it is left in the car!

I know I haven't posted much here before ... my internet knowledge isn't great!!  but I float on here every night and have learnt a lot from you guys!

I vaguely recall it didnt work when formatted by windows 7. I would have used the HP USB storage format tool. Its no longer available on the HP site but google will find it. My car is 400 miles away at the moment I will check the format and cluster size at the weekend.

We use 16gb Toshiba's with no problems. Be careful formatting USB drives, they don't like it & generally, it should never be necessary. If you must, always use proprietary brand software as advised above.

BTW 16gb drives are around AU$10.00 now.  :goodjob2:

I usually reformat any new usb drive I buy and so far never had a problem so maybe I've just been lucky then?....

Oh, and I just use the Windows 7 format tool....

Doing a full format means the drive is checked for any bad sectors.

I also do it to remove any software that happens to be on it.  :)

I think Skipper prefers Nano drives as they are almost invisible when plugged in (I like them too) They are a bit dearer though..

I use a 16GB, it might be worth experimenting with the block size if at first you don't succeed.

Mine is formatted as fat32 but it has an allocation unit size of 64kilobytes. I would not have selected this size without reason so I suspect this might help.
