I have been leafing through some old Renault car Club of Qld magazines. We called them "Rallye"

I came across this interesting information froma 1975 issue.

Did you know that one in every five new cars bought in Australia today is locally assembled in Australian Assembly plants using a combination of both imported and Australian-made components. In all some 17 different models representing the majority of the European and Japanese passenger cars available are built in Australia by our four major assembler companies.

Australian Motor Industries (AMI) - Corolla, Corona, Crown, Rambler Hornet and Matador, Triumph 2500TC (maybe this last should be on the next line but this is where it was in the original report)

Leyland Australai - Mini and Mini Moke.

Motor Producers Ltd - VW Beetle, Passat, Datsun 180B, 120Y and Volvo.

Renault Australia Pty Ltd - Renault 12 and 16, Peugeot 504. And the Peugeot bicycle.

IIRC, the big local manufacturers also did some assembly - for instance at this time, GMH's Acacia Ridge plant was assembling an Isuzu called the Gemini.
