Hi all,

I've recently purchased a used 2009 i30 Hatch (Manual). I've noticed that when i'm at cruising speed and take my foot off the accelerator pedal it seems a bit 'choppy' / jerky, until i press the accelerator again. It only happens when I take my foot off the accelerator either slightly or entirely.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks.

Welcome smashbie,

I'm trying to imagine that scenario. Could be a variety of obscure/diverse reasons.

Don't know what others think, buy maybe a grabbing brake or two?

An engine timing issue? Slightly blocked fuel filter or injectors?

Or something else I haven't even thought of... :crazy2:

Edit: Does the engine appear to misfire or stutter?

Thanks, no it doesn’t seem to affect the engine. No misfire etc. it’s hard to describe it’s to do with the pedal being released somewhat when at cruising speed.

Oh ok, that makes me suspect some sort of sensor malfunction. We have some very clued up technicians on here, but I'm not one of them.  :snigger:

Sounds like the fuel runoff isn't behaving - almost as if the fuel supply isn't being shut down completely.

Just an update on what this issue was. A mechanic checked the car and advised that it is a "torn rear engine mount" something to do with a 'transmission radius mount' that is causing the issue. They are going to charge $175 to fix the issue and the problem will go away.

Well that stops the whole thing from jerking around.  Ask for the old one, take a pic and put up here for everyone 's curiosity.   :goodjob:

Hope that fixes it please provide a further update when repair is completed. The mounts aren't cheap so that seems like a fair price including labour.

240k on the clock. I’m not aware of any accident history (last owner said there wasn’t any accidents but he only had the car for 2 years).

Until fairly recently I visualized engine mounts just being a rubber bush and thought they seemed dear for just a rubber block or bush, then Gerard (I think) posted some pictures.  :crazy1:
