Man for the win!
-
Definitely manual

Reason: More fun to drive.
-
its more fuel efficient too (somtimes)
-
Manual. I like to drive my cars, not be driven.
-
Hehe...
Feel the same way Middy
-
Manual
-
Manual as the auto wasnt available when I ordered mine lol, besides I couldnt afford auto
-
Manual, so the wife can't drive it
-
I chose the Manual.
The auto wasnt available at the time, but would have gone manual regardless.
That said, I have driven the Auto and it is very impressive.
-
Auto as im lazy :)
-
I would have chosen Manual but the wife wanted Auto.. So Auto it is..
-
MANUal

She can only drive an auto and though I have tried to teach her to drive a manual she'd rather not bother. Personally though I prefer being able to control the car better through a manual gearbox than an auto.

Auto. Wanted manual, but got outvoted by the wife (which I suppose is reasonable as the car is for her).
-
Manual all the way
-
Auto.
I guess I'm not really a car person :P
I've always been into automation - At work (computers) I'll script anything that makes my job easier.
I just dont see the point of doing extra things manually!
-
Manual = 29
Auto = 4
Total = 30
Poll is a strange one indeed
-
haha.. didn't notice that.
It also didn't let me vote till just now.
-
Also lazy. Ditto about scripting. I spend a lot of time trying to simplify things - even though it often ends up being a brain strain to work out how to simplify it in the first place.

I feel the same way. No one in my family drives an auto.
I will even (embarrassingly) admit that when I drove my first auto, a hire car, I had to ask my dad how to drive it
-
Surely Man.
More fun,more Vmax!
-
Manual.
But when they put a 5 gear box or 6 for Auto, i'll buy Auto
-
Real men drive manuals. (That's why I have driven an auto to this point in my life :-[ )
-
any idiot can drive an auto...
takes a little skill and co ordination to drive a real car... he he he he
-
I voted manual but would like to try an Auto Diesel one day (just out of interest)
-
I chose auto!
While I know how to drive a manual in theory.. practice doesn't quite keep up.
I also just like to be able to plant my foot on the brake if I have to stop suddenly without thinking what else I need to do. :P

Manuals outsell autos by far here in the UK and yet it appears that our antipodean opposites much prefer the autos. Yanks like autos too so maybe it's a 'distance' thing only I'd think the auto advantage would be more in urban areas. With the UK population density far higher than either you'd think we'd go for the autos more.

I think the % of Aussies who opted for the manual i30 is much higher than this particular thread would indicate.
Traditionally Aussies go for Autos in 6cyl and V8's less so in 4 cylinder smaller cars...
The Auto seemed to be very lightly represented in the first 6 months or so the site was going but has increased a bit in more recent times (for some strange reason?)
-
I've only driven an Auto a couple of times in the sates NOT FOR ME!!!
-
Manual, for the 4.7 l/100km, cheaper to buy & more fun to drive.
-

hahahahaaha... Hayseed.
Plant your foot on the brake in a manual, and pretty much the same thing happens... it STOPS. (Might even be pretty quiet at the end too!)
My thoughts...
One more Gear, and I'd maybe think about the auto.... for the Mrs.
-
Manual.
Can't drive autos. my hand keep looking for the gear knob and my foot for the clutch, so i look like a uncoordinated idiot when driving a auto :D

From memory, the only thing I recall ever having a bucket load of trouble driving; is GOLF BALLS.

I don't know driving the i30cw auto i think 4 gears is plenty, i get around 1500rpm at 80kms in 4th so plenty more there to use, and seeming the max speed in NSW is 110 i don't think i need much more.

Husband's car is a manual and it's terrible to drive in suburban traffic. It loathes being @ 50km/h and if there are too many stops and starts it starts QQing about it too.
That said though, it is a 10 year old car, whereas mine's nice, new and sometimes shiny!

^ I agree with this too, given I prefer staying at the speed limit than keeping up with the flow of traffic. It makes me quite sad to sit there being passed by the majority of traffic when I'm at the speed limit. :(
Was quite amused though coming home from my Sydney trip on the weekend (on my first tank of Vortex Premium - sitting at 6.3L/100km!) and using cruise control on the Mt Ousley hills and hear the engine kick in to keep going 100km up a hill. Hee. Love this car!
