Title: How do I remove my rear wiper arm after Monkey attack!!!
Post by: bobslay on September 10, 2012, 14:58:28

Hi,

After a visit to a safari park at the weekend a gang of monkeys now own the rear wiper and aerial of a 2008 i30 (maybe they're slowly building their own car so they can escape).

I have ordered a new wiper arm and blade and in anticipation of it arriving I tried to remove the stub left after the monkey theft. Removing the plastic covered revealed a hex nut, I removed this but the stub of the arm is still stuck fast and I can't figure out how.

Peering behind the rubber/plastic boot where the arm attaches to the car I can just make out a much larger hex bolt but I would need a spanner 1mm thick to get to it.

I'm probably missing something obvious but can anyone help me remove it?

Don't let the monkeys win, I've seen Planet of the Apes, this is the first step to a revolution.

Cheers

Rob

I can only imagine what you are seeing but there is a chance that it is attached via a slip on spline (which may also be tapered). If so, something like a screwdriver levering (twisting) up from underneath while you tap the shaft lightly might free it.

Hi Rob

Sorry to hear about your loss..  :snigger:

Haven't removed the rear wiperarm from the i30, but any other car I have seen, have the arm mounted on a conus.  You may be able to loosen it by using a plastic hammer on the side of the bit remaining.

If not possible, you may need a trigger to get it off.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Did they do any other damage or "wash" the car for you?

Don't know about them but I'd be "pissed"  :undecided:

I was just about to post the same video  :D

If Hyundai make a video showing how an i30 can survive a monkey attack, does this make the wiper a warranty issue? Lol

Welcome to the forum.  :)
I hope the monkeys put the wiper arm to good use.
