Title: Is there any interest, Brisbane/Sunshine coast
Post by: Aussie Keith on May 31, 2013, 08:45:01
For a day trip in the Sunshine Coast hinterland early July? If so we can negotiate dates and a proposed route, preferred lunch stop etc.

Keith, if you don't get much response to your thread try checking out our google map and contacting likely suspects by PM..

Hopefully Surferdude and Ugly Mongrel are available (I have met both of them and Russell, plus their partners)  :happydance:

AgentR31 (Ian) isn't as active as he used to be, and there are others like beerman etc ..  :goodjob:

It looks like we may have members from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. My suggestion would be for the Brisbane members to meet at the BP service station  on the Bruce and then head north to meet the SC members at the Ettamoga Pub on the highway.

From there we could head up the highway, drop off at Cooroy, the head out to Boreen Point on Lake Coorathaba for a spit roast lunch. Return via Tewantin/Noosa/Maroochy/Caloundra.

After the SC members drop off, the Brissy members can race each other home.  :faint:

UM, is the spit roast you mentioned the one they do at the Apollonian Hotel on a Sunday?

http://apollonianhotel.com.au/dining/sunday-spit-roast/ (http://apollonianhotel.com.au/dining/sunday-spit-roast/)

If so we may need to book early as the last time we were there it was so popular we missed out.

That's the one, Russ. Perhaps those who want to come along may need to book individually and advise the pub that we are part of a group.

Mrs UM & I are booked in as well.  Sunday 28 July.

Neil (the publican) is aware the club is coming. He told me the cost of the full spit roast meal (dead pig & dead cow) is $20/head.

I think the Birthday Boy's credit card will get quite a hammering.

With one week to go can I please have an indication of those who will be meeting at the BP servo. I'm thinking an 0900-ish arrival for an 0930 depart to the next meeting point at the ettamogah pub targeting a 1030 depart to the lunch spot at the Appolonian. That permits an easy two hours drive for lunch. I vaguely recall booking for 1230, I'll call them and confirm.

I'm open to suggestions on timing and the route to the pub for lunch btw so if there's a better plan, lets have it.

Keith, I'll be there with my wife, daughter and sister-in-law. I've booked for 4. 12.30 is what I told them when I booked.
At this stage we'll have to make our own way there as my daughter will be driving up to our place from Brisbane. We'll probably leave  here (Caloundra) at about 11am so we'll see you all at the Tavern.

If Trev is going straight to the Appollonian then that leaves just Sandy and I at the Ettamogah.
Do you Brisbane guys wanna stop at the Ettamogah? If you'd rather drive straight on then we are OK
with driving direct to the Appollonian. What do you think??

I have confirmed with the hotel for 1230 on Sunday and downgraded the table to 15. We have 10 and may get a few more roll up maybe.

So heading back to the grand plan, might it be better to target a departure from the BP at 1000 bypass the Etamoogah pub and just drive straight up to Boreen Point?

Its easy enough to swing past the EP if needed or keep going if not.

Other suggestions? All options considered.

Enroute: http://goo.gl/maps/kHuYh (http://goo.gl/maps/kHuYh)

Its a very easy hour and a half to two hours drive from there.

How many are meeting at the BP?   Bling  (Kerwick) & Lubricious will be there by 10am. Might I suggest we meet at the far northern end of the car park near where the trucks pull up?

I also have a suggestion for a slightly different route that includes a couple of kms of dirt between Cooroy and Boreen Point. We can do a bit of rally driving along the way.

Hi Keith, Sandy and I will travel from Maleny and we'd be happy to join the tour at the EP and trail along for the remainder of the trip.
Perhaps one beer together at the EP bar before we head off???

I won't be able to make it unfortunately. Don't talk about me.
And enjoy your slightly different route.  :D

OK then departing BP @ 10 from the northern end, pit stop at EP (10-30-ish?) and then off to Boreen Pt, route to be decided on the day.
Keith, Kerwick & I are planning to arrive at the BP at 10am, have a catch up over a coffee and then head north.

Keith, where are you travelling from in Brisbane?

We are northside and join the highway either at Boondall or Deagon depending on how I feel at the time.

Presume 1030-ish depart from there, meeting Russ at the EP (and anyone else who wants to meet here) , likely around 11am and then off to Boreen Point for lunch. Looking forward to catching up with you all.

Just got back from a great day out at Boreen Point. Great good and company.

Surferdude (along with the Three Dudettes); Kieran and his mate, John; birthday boy, Keith with his lovely wife, and yours truly accompanied by Mrs UM were all present. Unfortunately, Souelmate had to miss the day due to other commitments.

Keith and Kieran took  photos of the day, so keep an eye out for some of them to be loaded up.

All the cars looked great as you'll see in the photos.

Top day out. :goodjob2:

Anxiously contemplating lunch at the Apollonian Hotel...

Which looks pretty impressive.

As does the line up which extends round the corner and up the street. OK, not quite. Some of us chickened out and went to the counter for lunch. Those that stuck with it were rewarded with a fine repast.

I also have a suggestion for a slightly different route that includes a couple of kms of dirt between Cooroy and Boreen Point. We can do a bit of rally driving along the way.

A few more.

At the gathering place many photos were taken...

Of this:

Before leaving there was some drooling:

Further down the road the convoy pulled into Pomona celebrating on that very day the King of the Mountain footrace. This involves insanity and running up the mountain in the background.

http://kingofthemountain.com.au/ (http://kingofthemountain.com.au/)

Because this is a very big deal, the town center was closed and an detour was required. Once you got to the town of course. I had taken an additional detour a little earlier on the highway.

Onwards to the famous Apollonian Hotel where lunch awaits.

More bikes, more admiring:

Here's another view of the setup for lunch. You can see at this time there is no one lining up. Take note also of how to be appropriately attired in Queensland in winter.

After lunch, down by the water at was was a really nice spot.
