Post by: Just Rick on May 02, 2015, 15:26:12
Another weekend another project, this week is a new set of shelves for the shed, starting to get it organised

and a side project for the day was a new stand for one of our fan's,not happy with the crap they supply with them these days

Yeah the oscillating fans now days a pretty crap, the legs/feet on my one are very flimsy.

Mine also felt like no air was being blown until I removed the fan guard...now she pumps  :D

This is today's project, sick of having to continually clean my tools work bench from wood shavings and sander dust,so thought I would make a movable work bench, which can be placed anywhere I want, not finished yet, will have the saw bench molded into it and my vice

Looks like time well spent rick. Great job. I wish I had a workshop like yours.

My project for today was to run an Ethernet cable from the modem in the lounge up to my study, where my desktop computer is located. At present it connects to the internet via a pair of mains powerline Ethernet adaptors but I am getting a download speed of only 55 to 65 Mb/s from my 100 Mb/s Virgin cable connection.

After drilling the wall to run the cable out of the lounge, up the outside wall then through the wall into the study, a cable length of 18 metres, I am now getting a speed of 102 to 106 Mb/s. My wife thinks I am nuts - and she is probably right.

I like to run an ethernet cable to my smart TV,but I'm too cheap to buy a 15 metre cable  and I'm not sure how to make one  :fum:

I bought a ready made cable costing £5.81 plus postage from here :-

:link: Cat 5.e (Ethernet) Cables (http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/category.php?cat_id=159)

I had to drill a 20mm dia hole in the wall to pass the ends through - but it was much cheaper and more reliable than buying a 25 metre reel of cable, the plugs and Ethernet tool.

You must have a similar company in Aussieland. Like here..:link: Buy Cat 5E Cabling Solutions & Patch Panels from 4Cabling (http://www.4cabling.com.au/networking/cat-5e-solutions.html)

My son made me two 20 metre cables a few years ago. Run them into the wall near the modem and up into the ceiling. One drops down to my wife's workstation,  the other into my daughter's bedroom.
 Cost zilch.

Today's project, made this for a friends birthday, it's so she can carry all her shopping inside in one go (long story I won't go into) not finished yet as this colour is only the undercoat, personally I would have stained and varnished it,but the young lady likes black. Which Sue told me after I had the handle stained.

My next project is under way, some solid fencing, this is just one of the double gates,at least for this job no need to dress the timber  :goodjob2:

I haven't been on much of late,as I have been trying to get so many jobs done before my surgery on Thursday,Not Forking looking forward to that(surgeon said I'd be out of action for almost twelve months)so had to get cracking on with my jobs.
First was the Kitchen, strip out and refit(not finished but good enough to use)
(click to show/hide)
and as I wasn't real happy with mark 1 front door, now that I have more equipment(which I have been getting bit by bit)this door Mark2 only took me two days from start to fitting, the new thicknesser/Planer I have recently acquired made short work of what took me ages on the last door in planing and sanding
(http://i.imgur.com/O6MwTif.jpg)
amongst all that I've clean out the office made a crude Hospital Bed base that can be raised one end,as I'm told I'm going to need it,or I have to sleep in a recliner for the first couple of weeks.

This one is my old compressor,I had bought a handy man sand blaster even though the compressor would make it work for but seconds at a timeI thought it was time to do some modifications, works like a rip snorter now, even pump up tractor tyres now,and doesn't even know the sandblaster or nailgun is on it now with the extra tank

fuel economy won't suffer that Much DazzI'm only adding twenty kilo's to the car, maybe 30 by the time I engineer the mounting brackets. Alan won't need a centurion, this is what is called a smart bar, made of Moulded Plastic very strong but also very light,I can pick this one up easily with one hand.

the only way to do it Craig, bumper is stuffed anyhow from the last time I hit a roo, once happy with everything I'll finish off the body work, the bar aint coming off until either Alvin dies or is written off,as for the induction, tubing wasn't the issue, once I get the proper screen it will look better and where it is,I'll just have to clean my filter more often(have a cleanable Hi-Flow filter in the standard box)

Looks like a good job Rick!! i like the LED lights too!! i have two on my old Toyota HyLux and seems to do a great job turning everything white at night like Flood lights where did you get the bar LED? who makes that one?
i have to do lot of night time bush driving now so know how important they are.
Have had a few close call's with roo's lately, & was a big Blue Roo that hit my first FD lot of damage.
