I remember watching a tv show about Hákarl. Not sure who was the presenter, but he was a chef I believe.
-
Tonight was Þorrablót at my parents house: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9Eorrabl%C3%B3t
I'm not a fan of this festival, but some of the food is good, believe it or not.
At Þorrablót we eat food that Icelanders ate long time ago, long before burgers and coke
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9Eorramatur
Here's a list of some of the foods:
* Kæstur hákarl, putrefied Greenland shark (I tried it for the first time tonight, wasn't that bad!)
* Súrsaðir hrútspungar, the testicles of rams pressed in blocks, boiled and cured in lactic acid. (I will never eat this!)
* Svið, singed and boiled sheep heads, sometimes cured in lactic acid (not bad, good meat, but there's something wrong with having a part of a sheep head on your plate  )
* Sviðasulta, head cheese or brawn made from svið, sometimes cured in lactic acid (really good)
* Lifrarpylsa (liver sausage), a pudding made from liver and suet of sheep kneaded with rye flour and oats (Not a fan of it but liked it as a kid, like most other kids here)
* Blóðmör (blood-suet; also known as slátur, meaning slaughter), a type of blood pudding, which is made from lamb's blood and suet, kneaded with rye flour and oats (not a fan either)
* Harðfiskur, wind-dried fish (often cod, haddock or seawolf), served with butter (really really good, you wont believe how good this is!)
* Rúgbrauð (rye bread), traditional Icelandic rye bread (Never liked it)
* Hangikjöt, (hung meat), smoked and boiled lamb or mutton, sometimes also eaten raw. (fantastic! A favorite!)
* Lundabaggi, sheep’s loins wrapped in the meat from the sides, pressed and cured in lactic acid (tasted strange)
* Selshreifar, seal's flippers cured in lactic acid (eww, never in my lifetime!)
And a picture for you guys to enjoy

Why? I wasn't eating McDonalds or something disgusting

Fair point
To be honest I do fancy a bit of that Blóðmör, as I like English "Black Pudding" which sounds like it's very similar

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the food is similar to other old Scandinavian or old English foods, because how close we are and our History.
Here's a picture of Blóðmör:

Very similar :D
.. and very delicious (even though you said you are not a fan of it)

No I don't like it, but, there is another way of eating it that I like, you cut it up in slices and fry it on a pan and straw sugar over it, that is really really good :D
-
I'm on my way to Iceland right now :D

All this speaking about food has put me right in the mood for Burns Nicht on Monday.
A grand plateful of minced sheep heart, liver and lungs mixed with oatmeal, suet, spice and salt, boiled in a sheeps stomach for 3 hours served with mashed potato and mashed boiled turnip and washed down with a healthy dose of Highland Park should do the trick methinks!!
At's haggis, neeps and tatties if ye were wondering :D
Fair fa' yer honest sonsie face
Great Chieftain o' the pudden race
Aboon them a', ye tak yer place

Warm, reeekin, rich!

I remember as a kid watching The Goodies "Eckythump" episode and then convincing my sister and my mum to buy some for us to try. Mum fried it up for brekky with sausages etc and it was really nice.
I've eaten tongue, tripe, haggis and lambs fry (kidneys) as a kid and being a kid I remember being forced to eat it, hehehe.

Long time since I've had Tongue or Lambs Fry (which I thought was liver not kidneys) both are nice if prepared the right way..
Haven't tried haggis or tripe (and don't want to either) :P

I think you'll find lambs fries are neither liver or kidney (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y297/ShamblesX/GIFS/giggle.gif) (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y297/ShamblesX/GIFS/giggle.gif)
