Up untill to day it was 6, pulled in to my parking space and look down the line and seen that the car rental company below us had just receive 16 i30 in a silver gray and blak
-
Any advance on 16
-
They are very popular in Tassie (probably not as popular as in WA but close) on some recent long trips (300kms to Hobart) I reckon I would have come close to that number.. I'll have to try and remember to count them next long trip! I won't count the ones in the rental yards along the way
-
Last week we travelled from The Midlands UK to Devon and back - mainly on the M5 motorway.
Not being in a hurry, I set the cruise control to just 55 mph to see how low I could get the fuel consumption. Hence hundreds - if not thousands - of cars overtook me during the 7 hours we travelled there and back.
I recall seeing only three i30's.
Brimming the tank upon our return yielded a (1.6 manual diesel) fuel consumption of 53.4 mpg. The computer claimed 55.1 mpg.

Had a good i30 spotting day today.
Came out of the surf and there was an i30 Hatch parked at the other end of the 30 spot car park with only 7 cars there including mine. Before I left, another one, a CW pulled in and parked. Saw 2 more Hatches on the way home. That's 4 and it's only 7.30 am.
Went out this afternoon and parked in the shopping centre car park and when we came back to the car there was a nice blue CW parked immediately behind ours. Drove across to Dan Murphy's and pulled in to a spot only to find I was beside a NSW reg white hatch with surfboard on the roof racks. so, 6.
On the way back home, saw 4 more (2 hatches + 2 CWs) on the road and one hatch on a car carrier.
Total of 11.
I didn't count the ones in the Hyundai dealer's yard we past in both directions.
-
I can see 3 or 4 i30's just travelling the three miles to work, will do a full count next time I do a long trip, they are very popular with us thrifty Aberdeen residents!
PS I think that overlooking a rental company is cheating!! There is a bodyshop just up the road from my work which uses i10's, they have dozens of them!

The rental company below usually only has ford's & vauxhall's which is why I wouldn't class it as cheating. I would if thay always used i30, by the time I left work they where all gone and a good chance that it could be another 3 to 9 months before I see another one in the car park since the rental firm is a national company.

Travelled 845km today at saw a total of 13 i30's on the drive;

Yep.. We've done it several times but usually do it over three days and take lots of detours.. ends up a bit over 1000 km all up.. :goodjob:

I've been looking for i30-s since January (ordered mine on the 6th, unfortunately I still don't have it...), but they seem extremely rare in Budapest. I've seen 7 or 8 cars and two of those were test vehicles with Hyundai stickers/logos on it.
Better for me, at least I'll have some individuality :)

Hope it comes soon.. You must be getting "Hungry" for it

It's getting more and more like starvation ;)

one hatch on a car carrier.
i saw a car carrier full of them about a month ago!!! i lol'ed hard... and waved at the truckie :P
made me think tho... they must be a tad more popular than i thought considering they were the only cars on the car carrier...
-
can't say i've ever technically counted but i could probably say easily a dozen
on monday i was coming out from bunnings and stopped a wee bit confused for a moment wondering why my car was a car space closer to me than i had left it (looking at the cars side on), then realised the white i30 had black handles. yes they had parked right next to me. they had a cleaner car to - shame :-[
-
Went to Launceston today (200kms return) and saw a dozen i30 (all hatches) 3 x Vivid Blue, 3 X White, 3 x Red, 1 x Hyper Silver, 1 x Silver and 1 x Steel Grey (The discontinued darker grey metallic)
Strange not to see any Wagons (CW) as last time we did a decent trip saw approx a dozen i30's and at least 4 were CW's!
-
At one stage today on the way home there were three of us together. A blue CW, a steel grey hatch, and me.
One behind the other.
-
0 on a day to day, in the last 3 months I have only seen 1 i30 on the road. Not many in Wrexham North East Wales, hopefully I will change that soon.
-
Seven on the way to work and four on the way home today in Brisbane. Plus mine of course (the best looking one!!!) Most I've seen for ages.

any CW's other than yours??
-
About four CWs from memory, Dazzler. White was by far the most popular colour.

Some days I see quite a few CW's and others none at all :-\
-
There are 4 (including mine) "living" around my block.
I encounter with many on my 11km way to work. All hatchbacks.
-
There are 3 on the estate and I've left flyer but no takes yet.
-
I saw an incredible 16 on the way home last Friday on a drive of about 40k through Brisbane from north to south.
The Qld government, the Brisbane City Council and a large pathology collection company have the i30s as fleet cars, so there are plenty about. Although only about 5 of the ones I saw were fleet cars.
-
There are several around Devonport with eyecatching paintwork.. unfortunately they are usually on the move (or I am) when I see them so no photos yet..
A red hatch is painted with lollies (for a Confectionery shop) and another white hatch has Flames licking around the bottom of it (I think it is a rep for a gas company) and our main Electricity provider has fairly distinctive marking on theirs.. I will try and get some photos sooner or later :D
-
New record today for the most i30s seen.
Took a trip up and back to the Sunshine Cost from Brisbane and saw 34 i30s. Not bad for one day.....
-
that's not a bad effort for one day. :goodjob:

You're right, 2eyes. I couldn't get over how many i30s there were. The tally included those I saw leaving Brisbane; those on the highway going to the Sunshine Coast; those I saw at Caloundra, Moffatt Beach, Golden Beach etc and then the ones I saw on the way back to Brisbane. They are like bloody rabbits
-
Took a trip up to the Sunshine Coast on the weekend. Saw 31 on the way up on Saturday and 22 on the way back to Brisbane on Sunday.
-
 Reckon you should think about investing in an in car camera .. Would like to see that.. an interesting drive through that area too .. Will probably get up to the Kingscliff / Gold Coast region either late this year or early next year, hopefully :D

Dazz, I'm working on that for the Caloundra area. Still experimenting with camera placement though. Trying to get a slightly "side" view off to the left as well as the road ahead.

Sounds good Trev...I just remembered that my Panasonic point and shoot takes 720 HD vid so next time we are somewhere interesting with both cameras I will get Trish to drive and get two angles.. the straight ahead and some panning and side shots and try to combine them :D
-

Might be a bit hard to film them all Dazzler as a lot of the i30s I counted were in carparks, at service stations, on driveways, up side streets etc. Also a lot were on the opposite side of a separated dual carriageway (Bruce Highway) and by the time I notice a lot of them have shot past and I only confirm them by the rear tail light configuration. With so many small hatches on the road, some look a lot like the i30 at speed.
The cars I saw included driving school cars, hire cars, fleet cars as well as private vehicles. In Caloundra on Sunday morning, I had counted six within five minutes.
At one stage on the way home on the Bruce Hway, there were three of us in a small convoy. I always wave madly when I see another i30, so if you saw someone in a white i30CW waving up the coast on the weekend, that was me :P :P :P
-

At the markets were you UM?

Yep, went and had a look at the fare in Bullcock St
-
I have seen a few Hyundai's around, but not many i30's.
-
Took another trip to the Sunshine Coast over the long weekend. Here are the i30 sighting stats.
Saturday (travelling to Caloundra) - 15
Sunday - (out & about on the Coast ) - 28
Monday - (travelling back to Brissie) - 38
That's a total of 81 i30s for the weekend.
I'd have to say that red was the most popular color, followed by white. The Hatch outnumbered the Wagon by about two to one.
-
Did anyone else add up those three number to check UM's maths? :winker:
My trip the other day to Sheffield and back with detours probably about 80 kms (only saw 2 or 3 but roads pretty quiet being off tourist season)

WylieCoyote, you may be right suggesting that more people travel to and from the Sunshine Coast on weekends, particularly over the Queen's Birthday Weekend.
I start counting from when I leave home in Brisbane and stop when I get back into my garage. I include all i30s I see travelling either north or south, parked in driveways, at shopping centres (oh, and Bunnings :D) and driving in the Calounda/Kawana area of the Sunshine Coast. It isn't unusual to see five or six i30s within a 10 minute period in the Caloundra area. I've seen this more than once.
On the way back from the Coast on the Monday public holiday, I stopped for a coffee at the BP service station at Burpengary and counted a dozen i30s whizzing past going either north or south while having my coffee.
So yes, I agree with you WylieCoyote, you must get out more on weekends :whistler: :whistler:

A reply from a Touring owner. (Tom from Schenectady, NY, USA) I probably see on average two Elantra Touring's a week, which is pretty cool as I see it. I suspect I will see more in the near future, similar to when I bought a Santa Fe in 2001.
-
UM, must admit that Wednesday and Thursday when I was on the road, there wasn't much traffic. It sometimes happens like that. Travel to Golden Beach often as we have lodgings there. See more around Brisbane on a normal day.

As I live at Pelican Waters and drive to and from Brisbane often, I've given up counting. There's so many it's distracting.I must say I've never noticed a difference between week days or weekends. There's certainly plenty which live here.
I dug this topic up because today I cameup behind an i20 on the highway heading south, just as he caught up to a Getz and an Elantra caught up to me from behind.
We're taking over. :goodjob: :goodjob:
-
Not a bad bump actually.
Still very rare over here; I'll see only 3 or 4 a week.
Strange demographic though... without a single exception I would say the i30 drivers I've noticed are in their mature years; I haven't seen one who looked under 50 y/o
-
The number or the cars I see on our roads varies from 0 to 3 a day on average, it is because Saint-Petersburg is a big city and this car is not very popular as there are some cheaper analogs such as KIA Ceed and Hyundai Solaris, the latter is getting very popular now and its hatch-back version looks like i30.

Yeah it's interesting. When we were over there last year I think I saw about three in two weeks.
The demographic here seems to be much wider - plenty of young women driving them as well as a pretty broad selection of guys. And oldies. :whistler: At least two others turn up at my surf spot with boards on occasionally.

I see mainly blokes from 40 to 80 driving them. I split the difference there being nearly 60. Gawd, how did I get that old. There are more i30s than there were obviously but still not common. About a quarter of the ones I see are Bill Plant driving school ones.
The fairly similar Kia Ceed seems more popular with mature ladies. Maybe they prefer the firmer suspension when driving on cobbled roads. :scared:
I think younger people tend to stick with more traditional car types like VW and Citroen, whereas an oldster like me prefers value and reliability* above brand recognition and fashion. :)
* not had a problem yet anyway. :happydance:

Since my initiation into the ranks if i30'uns I have gradually seen more and more. Now I know you tend to notice peeps driving the car you own but really ownership has increased.
I see some drivin by ladies and some I have seen have been middle aged guys. Since the i30 is aimed at familiesI don't see youngsters being attracted to them (they don't know what they're missing)....
If anyone makes the mistake of asking me about muy choice of car they get the full on sales speech and usually finish up holding a razor blade in one hand whilst looking at the other wrist
I know the thread is how many have you seen, I can't sit around counting all day, I have a life to live   :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Good spot Steve.. Charlie the lady cop on our show "Home & Away" drove off in a Vivid Blue i30 the other day... :D
-
Yesterday, on the way to the shop-center I spotted three i30 parked there, I had never seen so many at the same time in Kolpino :D
Unfortunately not a single car turned out to be a member of Russian i30 club, not to mention this club as I'm only the one from Saint-Petersburg here :happydance:

Wow, police has Hyundai's? :) That's nice to see. No way we could see something like that over here anytime soon :) - only VW (Touareg, Transporter..), Škoda (Octavia, Superb..), Opel (Vectra, Astra..)..
Otherwise.. In few hours I've been driving today, I saw at least 10 i30's. Maybe even more...
-
Could possibly say around 25ish+ never counted...
O maybe its cheating working in a dealership and having a compound full of brand new ones...
Asides from that, Depends were I am, near home I would see a lot of them constantly, could be 15+ easily. They are cropping up a lot more though. :)
-
Just thought I'd add a little 'place dropping' to this topic. :whistler:
In London we saw a few i30's. I even saw a Vivid Blue one. Made me sad for just a second 'cause I didn't have my Viv to drive around. :( We were outside Buckingham Palace so the sadness didn't last long.
In Paris we didn't get out of the CBD except when we went to Versailles. They all seem to drive those little smart cars that only sit two people. They must have been every second car. It was amazing. Did not see a single i30.
In Italy we did not see a single i30 either. They have a few smart cars, but seem to drive (insanely!) just about every type of car you can think of. The one thing I did notice was how few 4 wheel drives there was. :happydance: I suppose that is one bonus
-
Thanks Kittikat.. great to see you back on.. :happydance: very interesting..
My Brother had a Smart car for a while when he was in france (and he is over 6' tall) :disapp:
I agree about the 4WD's I reckon they are a pain making the carparks all squeezy and blocking your vision ahead etc...
-
on our cruise today [rustynutz, firefight and myself] i saw at least 20 i30's,i stopped counting at 12. about half were cw's and the rest hatch's. :goodjob2: :goodjob: and that doesn't include our 3 i30's that we were driving. :winker:

there are so many of these in central qld that i should know better but few weeks ago i was walking out of the shops with a few large items. plonked them down on the ground behind my car and looking at th etailgate noticed a great big dent like someone had bashed a trolley into it.
oh no! :faint:
then wondered why the hell the dent was filled (very poorly) with a white filler. huh? :undecided:
it was not my car - duh :whistler:

When I bought mine I knew no-one else with one.
That night, after I drove it to work for the first time, when I went out to the car park, right next to mine was another SLX, Hyper Silver. A fellow had bought one just recently as well. Only diff, his is a pooftermatic (mine's a 6 sp manual) and his is petrol...
They are down the list of top sellers in Oz compared to Corollas, Falcons and Holdens, but I think they are still in the Top Ten.

the i30 has been as high as top three but mainly between 5th and seventh (quite a few top ten posts in the News and Reviews section)

This makes me laugh when I see how many there are.
As well as being told at the dealership that my 2 year & 9 month old car was 4 years old (09, 10, 11, 12), they also said that trade in values aren't very high on i30s because they aren't very popular!!!
And this, from the largest Hyundai dealership in the southern hemisphere
