There are several around Devonport with eyecatching paintwork.. unfortunately they are usually on the move (or I am) when I see them so no photos yet..

A red hatch is painted with lollies (for a Confectionery shop) and another white hatch has Flames licking around the bottom of it (I think it is a rep for a gas company) and our main Electricity provider has fairly distinctive marking on theirs.. I will try and get some photos sooner or later :D

New record today for the most i30s seen.

Took a trip up and back to the Sunshine Cost from Brisbane and saw 34 i30s. Not bad for one day.....

You're right, 2eyes. I couldn't get over how many i30s there were. The tally included those I saw leaving Brisbane; those on the highway going to the Sunshine Coast; those I saw at Caloundra, Moffatt Beach, Golden Beach etc and then the ones I saw on the way back to Brisbane. They are like bloody rabbits

Dazz, I'm working on that for the Caloundra area. Still experimenting with camera placement though. Trying to get a slightly "side" view off to the left as well as the road ahead.

Sounds good Trev...I just remembered that my Panasonic point and shoot takes 720 HD vid so next time we are somewhere interesting with both cameras I will get Trish to drive and get two angles.. the straight ahead and some panning and side shots and try to combine them  :D

Might be a bit hard to film them all Dazzler as a lot of the i30s I counted were in carparks, at service stations, on driveways, up side streets etc. Also a lot were on the opposite side of a separated dual carriageway (Bruce Highway) and by the time I notice a lot of them have shot past and I only confirm them by the rear tail light configuration. With so many small hatches on the road, some look a lot like the i30 at speed.

The cars I saw included driving school cars, hire cars, fleet cars as well as private vehicles. In Caloundra on Sunday morning, I had counted six within five minutes.

At one stage on the way home on the Bruce Hway, there were three of us in a small convoy. I always wave madly when I see another i30, so if you saw someone in a white i30CW waving up the coast on the weekend, that was me :P :P :P

Took another trip to the Sunshine Coast over the long weekend. Here are the i30 sighting stats.

Saturday (travelling to Caloundra) - 15
Sunday - (out & about on the Coast ) - 28
Monday - (travelling back to Brissie) - 38

That's a total of 81 i30s for the weekend.

I'd have to say that red was the most popular color, followed by white. The Hatch outnumbered the Wagon by about two to one.

Did anyone else add up those three number to check UM's maths? :winker:

My trip the other day to Sheffield and back with detours probably about 80 kms (only saw 2 or 3 but roads pretty quiet being off tourist season)

WylieCoyote, you may be right suggesting that more people travel to and from the Sunshine Coast on weekends, particularly over the Queen's Birthday Weekend.

I start counting from when I leave home in Brisbane and stop when I get back into my garage. I include all i30s I see travelling either north or south, parked in driveways, at shopping centres (oh, and Bunnings :D) and driving in the Calounda/Kawana area of the Sunshine Coast. It isn't unusual to see five or six i30s within a 10 minute period in the Caloundra area. I've seen this more than once.

On the way back from the Coast on the Monday public holiday, I stopped for a coffee at the BP service station at Burpengary and counted a dozen i30s whizzing past going either north or south while having my coffee.

So yes, I agree with you WylieCoyote, you must get out more on weekends :whistler: :whistler:

A reply from a Touring owner. (Tom from Schenectady, NY, USA) I probably see on average two Elantra Touring's a week, which is pretty cool as I see it. I suspect I will see more in the near future, similar to when I bought a Santa Fe in 2001.

UM, must admit that Wednesday and Thursday when I was on the road, there wasn't much traffic. It sometimes happens like that. Travel to Golden Beach often as we have lodgings there.  See more around Brisbane on a normal day.

As I live at Pelican Waters and drive to and from Brisbane often, I've given up counting. There's so many it's distracting.I must say I've never noticed a difference between week days or weekends. There's certainly plenty which live here.
I dug this topic up because today I cameup behind an i20 on the highway heading south, just as he caught up to a Getz and an Elantra caught up to me from behind.
We're taking over. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Not a bad bump actually.

Still very rare over here; I'll see only 3 or 4 a week.

Strange demographic though... without a single exception I would say the i30 drivers I've noticed are in their mature years; I haven't seen one who looked under 50 y/o

The number or the cars I see on our roads varies from 0 to 3 a day on average, it is because Saint-Petersburg is a big city and this car is not very popular as there are some cheaper analogs such as KIA Ceed and Hyundai Solaris, the latter is getting very popular now and its hatch-back version looks like i30.

Yeah it's interesting. When we were over there last year I think I saw about three in two weeks.

The demographic here seems to be much wider - plenty of young women driving them as well as a pretty broad selection of guys. And oldies. :whistler: At least two others turn up at my surf spot with boards on occasionally.

I see mainly blokes from 40 to 80 driving them. I split the difference there being nearly 60. Gawd, how did I get that old.   There are more i30s than there were obviously but still not common. About a quarter of the ones I see are Bill Plant driving school ones.

The fairly similar Kia Ceed seems more popular with mature ladies. Maybe they prefer the firmer suspension when driving on cobbled roads.  :scared:

I think younger people tend to stick with more traditional car types like VW and Citroen, whereas an oldster like me prefers value and reliability* above brand recognition and fashion. :)

* not had a problem yet anyway.  :happydance:
