I have a family member with a 6YO auto Outback. Various electrical gremlins (clock/trip/outside temp display not working, no front screen wash, timing wrong for rear wiper stop position.....) have been traced to a dodgy computer that Subaru are happy to replace for $400.  My advice was 'pay to maintain your car or replace it' but this has been met with some resistance. Comments & suggestions welcome.

I guess it depends on if it has done many kilometres and how reliable it has been up to now...

The outback is a nice vehicle and generally reliable (but a bit thirsty) it was on our short list a few years back but the fuel economy and service costs scared me off...
