No work today so I decided to get the pressure washer out and do the car and clean the path and well, do a few jobs the way us chaps are supposed too.

After washing the car (detailing it for those Ozzie lot) I was gonna put the car to bed ready for work tomorrow, OK so far, untill I went to put the drivers side winder up.......  it went half way up then ground to a standstill.  Oh No, I thought, it's sub tropical weather right now, but this is England here it can be scorching hot and sunny and a few hours later tipping down and chilly and I have to drive aprox 150 MILES tomorrow for my work, and I need to dosh not like you lot who are loaded    ...

So, I lives just round the corner from my dealership (that's handy) so I was there like jack flash asking the nice man if the nice techie man could just have a quick look for me.  I regaled him about my work problems and my constant need for money and how I could have a day off work cos I am self employed and they may not call for me again if I don't attend and on and on and on.....

He took it round the back to the workshop place saying they may just get it up and then I may have to fetch it in if a new part is needed and so on...  I was a happy bunny.

I was even more happy when the guy appeared with my keys and said "sorted..."  before disappearing back into his little Kingdom.

Needless to say, I will not be opening my winder till AFETR I get home tomorrow evening  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

However this is another thumbs up for the warranty  :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

Hey hey :D

To be honest, I usually wash my car with the windows UP, not down :P

What was the problem then? Parking ticket wound down inside the glass? Fuse?

Nope..... he dropped the keys and vansihed.   I did actually want to ask him had a ten pound note slid down the gap and lodged in the runner, but alas if it had he wasn't telling me.

This is a further to the mystery flat battery incident in which they were to attach a new wire somewhere, but no-one could tell me where.  Oh well, there ya go.......

I just wished there was a Haynes Manual for this car, not for now, for when the warranty runs out.  Although I most likely won't have the car then.  Indeed, the powers that be might have told me I can no longer drive a car by then for in a couple of years I shall have to re-apply for my drivers license <sigh>

Right, I am an old man so stop picking on me

I know what the problem was ................. but I'm not telling

Okay I'll tell..............

Assuming the glass was still in its correct postion and had not slipped and you used the pressure washer when you washed the car, water would have got behind the lower seal and this will have got into electrical plug connectors.

I bet the fuse had blown.
(I had a similar problem with my previous car and this was the problem).

Or the glass had slipped out of its runner

I think the glass going half way up before jamming sort of negates the blown fuse theory me thinks,,,,   water on the lectrics is also blown out of the water, for the same reason...   glass out of the runner.........  MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm maybe

I don't believe the window going partway up before stopping blows that theory out of the water at all.... :undecided:

Given so many theories and counter theories it would be nice to know what it was.

Any chance you can find out asathorny?

You could ring the garage and say you need the answer for your own records.

ps I've read that the window electrics will operate for a short while after the car engine has stopped.
I wonder whether something similar happened here before the window stopped part way closed or is that part way open

asa, from one (not so) old guy to another (very), I think what we'd all like to know was this.
You washed the car. We can assume from that you did it with the windows wound up.
You then said the window wouldn't wind all the way up.
We HAVE to assume from that that you wound the window DOWN at some stage between washing the car and putting it away
Is that the sequence of events?

Anyway, water in (or in the vicinity of) the electrics could well allow them to work a bit before blowing the fuse.

Also, did I understand you to say you washed the  car with a pressure washer?
If so, I reckon you'll continue to get water down inside the doors. Personally I don't think it's a good idea to was a car with a pressure washer.
I wonder what others think?

I never wash my cars with a pressure washer - I use a soft brush attached to the hose which provides a constant flow of clean water.
A bucket and sponge is another no-no - a sure recipe for paint scratches

I never use a pressure washer either and have to say I am not keen on the brush attachments for hoses, the bristles always feel just a little hard to me.

2 buckets, one with shampoo/warm water (not hot!!) and one with clean cold water.  Grit guard in each and microfibre mitt.
Microfibre finger sponge for grille and bug squash sponge for the wheels. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Guilty as charged I'm afraid...  yes I did wash the car with the winders UP, then, as it was a hot day, isent the winders down.  I was going to garage the car so I pressed for the winder to go back up... then I had a little pantomime of up down up down and up dawn, for five minutes or so but no matter how often I did I it refused to budge past the half way mark...  I did at one point try to assist it, but nope it was having none of it.  It was at this poiint I trundled round the corner, well, bout haf a mile to be more exact, to the dealership.  Is this any help Ssureferdude?

In reply to the three of you, message recieved and understood, I already have the soft brush attachment and shall from now on use the and the micro fibre cloths...

It is good fun tho using the power washer, but, everything I enjoy is in some way or another BAD for me  :'( :'( :'(...

OK I have no work today and it's blue sky wall to wall...  now then what shall I do  :whistler: :whistler: :whistler: :whistler:

Power washer is OK if you set it to gentle and if you kinda wave the wand rather than concentrating on one place.

I have also heard that power washer on "maximum attack" will fade the red colour in your rear light lenses over time, don't know quite how true that one is, but you do see an awful lot of cars with overly bright rear lights due to the lenses being pink and faded, reducing the filtering of the bulbs

That sounds plausable Steve.....   :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

And I'll try to bebunk the water and the fuse theory... at 12 volts you would never get enough current to flow through water to blow the fuse.

I reckon you could emerse the electric connectors (not the motor!) in a water bath and the "winders" would work just fine.

I'd go with the jamming/binding theory and the safety cut-out tripping.

Oh no, after the battery incident I am loath to go there.  Although there does seem to have been a complete change of staff from when I was last there.  The service manager at that time almost got to the point of having to be restrained and given emergency valium up the trumper (he seemed to be having a fit of some kind)

Anyhow, I won't be calling in on this occasion, sorry....

Isn't there some magical intermiweb site gimmick that let's us view the service & repair history of our Hyundais?

Pretty sure someone (MyHyundai? Lester?) posted a link a while back but it wasn't operational at the time.

We could read Asa's diagnosis:

"Located and removed small piece of used chewing gum from winding mechanism; returned to owner (the i30, not the gum). Kept the gum for later".
