Hi guys, unfortunately I think I have an autoelectrical fault, but I don't think it's necessarily an i30/Hyundai issue, therefore I write it in General Discussion!

Anywho, I have gone through about 6 globes in as many months, all being the standard H7 globes that provide the headlight illumination. I haven't added any halogen/Xenon globes, just the bog standard ones. Is there any course of action I should take (other than to the dealer), that would cause this to happen? Or is there an easy fix? Oh, and they were both headlamps, 4 passenger side, 2 driver's side.

I have the same problem with headlight globes blowing and i have 2 I30 in which were purchased at the same time, the vehicles are only 11 months old.

This is how many globes we have changed and under warranty. Hyundai denies liability and has checked the electrical system and found no problems, however there has to be:

Welcome joelongo..... :goodjob:

Sorry to hear of yet another issue with globes blowing....Are your i30's diesel or petrol?

I really think it's pretty piss poor of Hyundai to deny liability when your vehicles have blown as many globes as you say.

Personally, I think I'd be putting in a complaint to Consumer Affairs or such......btw, which country are you in?

Good luck!

Hi Joe, and welcome to the club.

That's an awful lot of replacement bulbs you've endured there

I'm assuming that XVW 100/099 are the reg plates on your i30s, if so the 099 seems to be suffering more, by a factor of 2-to-1. Are they driven over different terrains?

You mentioned they were all replaced under warranty; that suggests Hy are admitting liability in some way, otherwise why would they change them for free?

As Rusty infers yours isn't an isolated case; we've had members with similar (although not quite as severe) bulb issues. In a couple of instances the voltage at the filament has been shown to be too high under spike conditions. If it were me I'd couple up a voltage recorder and monitor it over a couple of weeks; however, unless you already own or have access to one, that would be false economy. Do you have any independent autoelectrical dealerships nearby in Vic? Just thinking out loud, maybe they could advise...

Good luck.

Hi Joe and Welcome... I'm guessing they are Diesel (which seems to be the main culprit for premature blown globes  :disapp:)

We really must try and get to the bottom of this! It seems to be one of the very few semi-common faults in the excellent quality Korean built i30's we get in Australia..

As Shambles has suggested it appears to be related to some sort of voltage spike but Hyundai have only half acknowledged the problem in a couple of instances. A European member got some help from his dealer fairly recently from memory?

Joe,

Have you seen this thread: https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=8696.msg107816#msg107816

It describes exactly the same problem but not as severe as yours.

As I write in another thread: https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=10312.0

I have just had my car back from the first 20000km service and the dealer/garage did take a look at the voltage and confirmed that it is to high. They have promised to take it further. So for the moment I'm on park+fog when I'm out driving to save my normal bulbs until I really need them later in the autumn/winter.

Go back to your dealer/garage and refer to this Forum. The more people that complains about this the better change we have of getting a solution from Hyundai.

...I'm getting pretty good at changing bulbs now    :fum:
