Ok. Here's the thing.

Over the two years I have owned the car I've noticed that (very) occasionally, as you straighten up on the exit from a corner (only left hand ones AFAIK), when the indicator gives it's last flash as the stalk goes back to the central position there is a corrresponding flash from the right indicator. This is NOT an alternate flash. They both flash at the same time.
Now I don't know how often this occurs. It's certainly not all the time as whenever it catches my eye I keep watching for the next few corners and it doesn't do it again.

Of course I'm looking at the little green arrows on the dash but I assume they are only replicating what's happening on the extremities of the car.

I can go months without noticing it but as you are watching the road at this point in time, it could be happening more often. However it's certainly VERY intermittent.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't seen anything like what you described in a message, I'll keep it in mind next time I'm making a turn, but I'm sure it won't happen. Perhaps your stalk has loosened and on its way back to center position it just goes a little bit too farther or whatever....

This sounds a bit like what you are referring to Trev......

This would be more concerning on the new SLX and SR models here in Australia which have the "European" feature of flashing 3 times with a gentle press.

I find this more annoying than useful. Often I initially go to flash for a lane change, but then realise there's a car there so I want to cancel it, but it has to do the obligatory 3 flash minimum.

Now if you were turning left and due to this bug when it cancelled it gave a flash to the R, on my car it would have to give a minimum 3 flashes to the R.

This would be super annoying and worthy of a warranty check.

When it returns to the centre I wonder whether it springs upwards rather than stopping at the centre?

Not worn. Still very firm in its operation and anyway, it was noticed first when th car was quite new.

Yeah. I hate that feature. Had it on a hire car in UK last year. I don't have it. :goodjob2:

No, the stalk does pretty much what it's supposed to. And remember, it's not an alternative flash. It happens on both sides at the same time, as if you had your hazard flashers on.

But I appreciate the feedback.

Thanks mate. I remember reading that now. It would seem to be more common than I thought.
But the stalk isn't moving too far the opposite way IMO. However I'll pay more attention in future.

Imagine, a lot of club members driving around today watching their indicator stalks instead of the road, you sure you don't have shares in a crash repair business surferdude.

I would guess there is some form of intermitten electrical fault with the indicator and hazards

Haha.
I actually chose that word as I wasn't sure what they're called in other parts of the world. "Flashers" might have given the wrong impression. :happydance:
And "lane change indicators" takes too long to type.

Remember those little arms that used to come out of the side of the car in the Morris minor. They were orange and I think they had a dim globe inside them. Only ever had 1 car where they ACTUALLY WORKED. I was fascinated by them as a child, I used to play with them, operating them while the car was parked. Which is why they were inoperative most of the time I guess. You just reminded me of the "trafficators," that's what we called them.  :)

Trafficators are semaphore signals which, when operated, protrude from the bodywork of a motor vehicle to indicate its intention to turn in the direction indicated by the pointing signal. Trafficators are often located at the door pillar.

There is a picture.

I remember these on the Morris 1000 circa 1960's

I have them on the ix20 and I have found them a lot more useful than I would ever have imagined, I use them when exiting roundabouts and I have to say from a safety point of view that having an obligatory three blinks when changing lanes is so much better than the single blink brigade :scared:
