First new car for an ex motorcyclist. Very nice to drive. So effortless.

You guys at this forum helped me make my decision to buy. I have been reading for a few months, but this is my first post.

My car has only done a bit past the 1k service, but it feels great. Feels like it will be this good for years to come.

I am a web developer (geek), and have another passion which is LED torches. I have a nice torch which I carry in the car - a JETBeam rrt-0.

Does anyone else pack an LED light in the glove box?

*Disclaimer: www.liteshop.com.au is my night job.

Hi db08, I got the diesel.

Can't compete with you for pics yet, but I will try and find one to post.

Whats the easiest way to insert pictures?

Title says CRDI  :happydance:

Greetings j30 welcome.

Yes, I used to make LED globes by breaking the globe & fitting LED & resistor way before ANYONE sold led torches. I had orange for fishing, red for astronomy & walking around the house at night and of course white. The highest intensity I could get was 6k mcd which is pathetic by today's LED torched. I now have Luxeon & CREE torches & yes, in the car. Glad there is someone else out there like me.  :happydance:

Trying to insert an image..... Is this visible?

Hi 847563, CREE LEDs seem to be the way now. I have also learned a lot about batteries with my torch habit too.

The torch I keep in the i30 is a http://www.liteshop.com.au/content/nitecore-d112 which uses plain old AA's.

When I go camping (see pic), I use something a bit more powerful. 18650 batteries are good.

Image is displayed ok. Looks like a cool setup you have there. My torches have to take AA or AAA batteries or I wont buy the torch. I also have the odd torch that uses a buck circuit to drive 3.6v from 1 AA

847563, you sound like you know a bit about torches. I had never heard of a buck circuit.

To get brighter than AA's could deliver, I got some 18650 rechargeables. I also learned that 18650 means 18mm diameter, 65mm long, and the 0 means round - 18650.

18650s are what are used in laptops basically. My laptop has a 9 cell battery, which means 9 18650s. 18650s are li-ion batteries.

My brightest torch uses three 18650's - its a JETBeam rrt-3, but it's not my favourite light, and I don't carry it in the car or take it camping.

My favourite light uses one 18650 - its a http://www.liteshop.com.au/content/jetbeam-rrt-1-r5 - it throws a beam for more than 300 meters.

I know you can get similar power from a torch that runs on a few AA's or AAA's, but I like small and rechargeable.  :happydance:

I assume your "favorite" torch throws a white beam. The white LED needs 3.6v to drive it. I assume an 18650 is 1.2v. If that's the case, your torch would have the buck circuit built in.

Hello Mongrel,

I am in Sydney. I have been here about 6 years, originally from NZ.

I can see from your profile that you are in Brisbane. I probably should update my profile.

I kind of wish I got the wagon like you, but I am happy with my wheels. It's still on it's second tank of fuel.

I have coles insurance, which give me 12/c a liter discount on diesel if I buy from them - not sure if it's really worth it.

As I mentioned before, I work in web development - my day job is a web site that provides online education for medical doctors - my hobby is LED torches and www.liteshop.com.au.

I can offer fellow i30ownersclub members some vouchers if interested. (Sorry Dazzler, nice name by the way  :whistler:)
