I bought my i30 in November, heading into Australia's summer. Now that it's March things are starting to cool down a bit. However, I've not had to use the heater yet.

I was wondering how the SLX climate control performs and how quick does it start to work. Do the diesels warm as quick as the petrol engines in relation to getting the heater to work?

This morning, coming home from work it was 13 degs C. I had the CC set to 24 degs and on auto. It didn't seem to be pumping out any real heat.

If it's on auto, check to see if the air cond is operating & deselect it. Ours seems to warm up reasonably quickly and the heat is quite acceptable too. I have no complaints at all.

That is a definite disadvantage with the Diesel .. They are a lot slower to warm up than the petrol. It took mine about half way to work (3.5 Kms) before it was throwing out much heat in the winter.. Bit of a pain when trying to defog windows ..

BUT .. still reckon the diesel is the pick of the litter.. :happydance:

If the A/C isn't running won't it fog the car up? It does on our other vehicle and all my Commodores before that.

How reasonable is quickly?

ie. 5 mins, 10 mins?

Sorry I was a bit vague there, about 5 minutes, but we have clear roads from our house so little idling, mainly 60 kmh.

Regarding fogged windows, that shouldn't happen if you have outside air selected, but there is a catch. It is popular for people to drive with the a/c on nearly all the time. I don't, because we simply don't need to unless it's hot, which isn't very often where I live. However, the normal function of the a/c is to condense excess moisture in the air & drain it from the vehicle through the drain pipe. If the a/c has recently been used and moisture has condensed inside it, when you use the fan next, it picks up moisture from the a/c and that is why your windows will fog up.

My i30 do not have climate control, only A/C, but that shouldn't make any difference.

This winter we had - 20 C for some weeks, so when I started my car in the morning at those temps, it only took about 4-5 km's before it started to heat very well in the cabin.

Our older Nissan Primera petrol takes longer to heat up the cabin, so very satisfied with the i30 CRDi.   :goodjob:
