Hi everyone,

I just bought a new 2012 Elantra Touring GLS, which is the top of the line trim in Canada.

I've noticed some strange differences between it and the cars i've seen/read about on the forum...

1. It's still the old body style (new style was introduced 2 weeks after I bought) though I prefer mine
2. It has steering wheel mounted cruise control, but no audio. The bluetooth is mounted in the ceiling, so there's just an empty space where my left thumb goes.
3. It has no roof rails, or fixed point system to install an after market roof rack. Yet the US spec, i30 CW and i30 estate all have this. I guess Hyundai doesn't think Canadians bike, surf, canoe, ski/snowboard?  Though I can assure you, we do all of those things.
4. Of course, no Diesel option.
5. We have a TON of these on the road in Toronto, but not much of a local online community. So, if you're from Toronto, make sure to say hi.

Other than those strange differences, I can say i'm pretty happy with her looks, ride and fuel economy (I used to drive a hand me down V6 minivan).

Here are a couple of pictures, her name is Svetlantra.

Welcome to the forum.
That's a sexy name you've chosen for your ride  :D
It looks very nice.  :goodjob2:
I'm not sure why the differences in specifications between markets - it's just something that Hyundai does but I'm sure you'll be very happy with it her.

But great surf. I have a mate from the Gold Coast who goes over there regularly to surf.

Thanks everyone.

So far, the only issue i've had was that the spoiler came loose (one of the bolts was never attached)

They fixed it at the dealership, but I still have that one bolt rattling around inside my tailgate.

Welcome aboard. Excellent choice.

Thanks, and I'll for sure be posting more photos.

Hi there, i guess i'm the closest member to you in montreal.
The reason you don't have the audio control is because this was in the gls sport before and since they were not selling much of those they dropped te package for 2012.
Like you i see lots of other touring but no community or local aftermarket support.
Guess we'll have to create it ourselves!

Hey man! i like the GLS! I wanted to get that one, since the extra options were well worth the extra $2000 or so. But I just couldn't justify spending that on the car...I wanna go snowboarding!

My permanent residence is in Toronto, but I'm moving to Ottawa semi-permanent for a job that may or may not pan out. The availability of parts is pretty weak...and expensive. I really want to get a community going, but haven't found anything in Ottawa. I found a couple people, but haven't had time to reach out to them individually yet.

Cheers!

Welcome John.
Also frequent Toronto, having grown up here but now living an hours North.
Do still work in TO, and ride my bike down for a weekly meet when the weather permits.
