It seems to me that the extreme muslims go out of their way to "keep women in their place" and have very little regard for their respect or welfare.

The current Islamic calendar year is 1434 AH - which is 578 years behind our Gregorian calendar. Seems about right - 500 years ago we treated females in similar fashion.
