Oh Crap! Mine has a couple of major rust spots on the front bonnet, paint already peeling off. I live in Melbourne - no salt on the roads down here.

I haven't been back to the dealer yet (it's Saturday!) but does anyone in Oz know if this is covered under warranty? It sounds like there's been a fair bit of this.......

I wouldn't say there has been "a fair bit of this" only a couple of isolated incidents (mainly red for some reason?)

I think you will be looked after under warranty...Keep us posted and good luck..

My understanding of the UK paint warranty is that it is covered if the rust is    ---   inside to out.

Unless it is a bad stone chip that has started to rust I think they would be keen to fix it as a PR exercise.. but if they do don't accept an inferior repair.. if the paint repair is at all obvious insist on them doing it again...

Apart from taking it to an auto-paint specialist, is there a good way to tell what caused it? I haven't yet taken a photo, but there are two spots close to each other. The top one is a nice symmetrical circle which makes me think it began internally -  a stone chip would probably be an odd shape. About two inches lower - right where the bonnet turns under - it's an odd shape, but it's at a joint. There are no possible stone chips anywhere on the car.

I lived in the UK for 25 years and I used to accept rust as inevitable, but on a nearly new car in Melbourne it's unacceptable! I mean, you buy a new car for advantages like nothing going wrong for a while. I had been so impressed I had started looking at a Tucson/Santa Fe to replace my other car, but will have to put that idea on hold.

 don't loose faith in you cars build quality so soon,I'm sure your dealers will fix it quiksmart,you shouldn't get jerked around.

If they aren't helpful and responsive point them at this thread on our site which now has over 1000 members that would get their attention (doubt it will come to that...)
