With a recent survey putting VW 12th out of 12 popular car makers in Australia (169 faults per 100 cars delivered) they need to do something... :whistler:

My sister-in-law drives a diesel Golf (I'm frantically searching for the snobby smilie) and it is THE best car in the world apparently.
Hyundai i30 is an inferior product that will never, ever be as good as VW, so I welcome these little snippets.  :happydance:
Now, how much is VW servicing again? And how much did the car cost?  :whistler:

My parents looked at the Golf (admittedly the base model). Felt they were getting far less for their money than they got with the Hyundai and liked how it drove better.

My brother wanted to look at the Golf but they gave him the big run around when it came to test driving so he gave up and bought something else.

We have employed a lot of people in the after-sales area

That, itself, speaks volumes  :Rubbish:

A friend had a Mk 5 2.0 DSG diesel from new.  It refused to start once and had to be towed.  The fault was in a fuel pump or something like that.  That was his only problem, but he did not do a lot of ks in it.  He traded it after perhaps 3 years and about 30,000 ks on a Mk 6 GTD.  So far that has been problem free.

The Cars Guide in the Herald Sun here in Melbourne (Murdoch press is rubbish except for their Cars Guide - I go to the library to look at that; would not pay $ for it) has too many letters from Golf owners with major mechanical problems.

My father had three different Golfs during the last 20 years. He always drove them hunderd thousands of km and as far as I remember never had any big problems.

I also must admit, that I feel that the diesel in his current golf is a stronger engine (especially in low revs) than in my i30 even though the Hyundai is stronger on the paper (128 PS vs 105 PS).

But of course they're quite expensive. To get my fathers Golf (as new car), I'd have to pay about 45% more compared to my i30. And his Golf hasn't got more features than mine and only 2 years warranty.

I have had 2 Golfs and they have been fine cars. I did about half a million km in the two of them. But these days I think the i30 is better on a range of fronts and certainly value for sure.

My wife has a 2012, Mk 6 Golf, 1.6 diesel (bluemotion) which has done about 12 000km in the last 6 months. In that time it's not had any issues at all and continues to impress. It's first service is due at 15 000km so I can't comment on the service cost as yet, but it is a better car in all respects than my previous 2008 FD i30 being quieter, more economical, better handling, better braking, better steering, more comfortable, etc, etc.  I loved my old FD and sold it to my son after four years of faultless motoring. Just hope the Golf ages as well.

Not as yet Dazz. The insurance company (NRMA) claims that the recent tropical cyclone and flooding in QLD
have overwhelmed their assessors and they won't get to look at the car for another week.
So we'll hopefully have some idea of what they will do around Monday 18th Feb.
Meanwhile the car sits at the dealership in Maroochydore.

I suppose no news is good news.. When Ashley's car got written of in a WA Hail Storm, so many others did too that it took a while  :undecided:
