I know there are a few posts on this subject but none seems appropriate to my situation.

Is there a non genuine ipod cable that suits my vehicle (2008 i30 CRDI SX Hatch) or do I have to go genuine ?

I have checked ebay and none is suitable to fit my vehicle, all appear to fit later years 2010 and up any help would be appreciated.  I don't really want to fork out a small fortune for a genuine one through the dealers.

Hey silver1,

When I ebay-ed "i30 ipod" I got 65 hits with the cable which will work for the FD i30. They are all the same I think and I bought a non-genuine one earlier which worked great for a fraction of the cost.

The genuine Apple version is around £30, I gave mine to my daughter to use her i-Phone in her Coupe since I got my £10 MP3 player lol! That just plugs straight into the FD!

I have an apple ipod cable and whilst it enables you to play music from the ipod, there is no ability to scroll and pick song easily.  I'm assuming that a geniune one will give you this functionality ?

As I am new to Hyundai I don't know if the electric are the same between different years of the i30, they may well be ?

I also have a wireless adapter that you can connect to your ipod and play it through a designated channel however the quality isn't that good.

As WaJa!?! stated in their response I did get many hits from the same search, however as mentioned when I went into the actual listings and put in a year and also sent several e-mails the suppliers said that they wouldn't fit my vehicle.  Thus I am reticent to purchase an item that I have been told doesn't suit my vehicle.

I was hoping someone with a 2008 model has purchased one and could point me in the right direction or someone can advise me if the ipod connector is the same for all year i30 vehicles.  There may also be some suppliers that offer a better quality product than others ?

@ Gonz,

What is it about the ipod cable that's so special, how does the device know what is genuine and what is not

There are only four connections and 2 of those are power  :Dunno:

I think that silver1 means that he is using the ipod cable that came when you buy the ipod, not the AUX + USB cable that is required for the car.

Previously when I was using my ipod, I must agree that the system is quite messy to scroll through folders and stuff and I ended up resorting back to just a USB alone since the folder hierarchy is alot easier to use (also I dumped my ipod for a better media device)
