Hey

I just came across an article in a Swiss newspaper. The do a long-term test of the new i30 Wagon (1.6l diesel). So long they have done 10'000 km and already had to bring in the car to the shop several times.

- After 2000km an etching stink occured. The Hunday technican said it were residues in the tubes. The stink reappears occasionally.
- During the winter, two warning lights came up: 'electronic park barke' and 'bending light'. The dealer finds a fualty sensor (parking brake) and a loose cable (bending light)
- Afterwards, the contact between the door-sensor and the interior light quitted the service
- A short time later, the left beding light became faulty and started to permanently glare the oncoming traffic

Right now, the car is again at the shop. They're trying once more to detect the source of the stink and try to fix the newest electronic defects.

Only small things... but quite a lot of small things for a car that isn't yet a year old and has only done 10'000km.

Hyundai has an enviable reputation for reliability as a result (mainly) of the FD.

I do hope they don't squander it.  :disapp:

It takes an awful long time to build up a good reputation but not very long at all to develop a bad one.

Very true Dave, I believe this site was built on the goodwill generated by the brilliant early FD cars. :goodjob:

My opinion is this.
I think that the earlier FDs probably have a bit more character as they are a bit more individual in design.  :)
They also seem to suffer from a few less warranty issues.  :undecided:
But the GD is a great improvement in refinement and driveability.
Considerably quieter and nicer to drive with the U2/ 6 speed (I can't comment on the FD U2/6 speed as I've never driven one).
I loved my FD to bits but have to say that I am pleased that I changed to a GD as I really enjoy driving it every day and it is even more economical than my FD.
Just my 2c worth.  :)

I don't know, look at Toyota, plenty of recalls, and their still selling plenty of cars.

Goes to show what a mechanic told me when I got mine, if you can get to 10k without an issue, you've got a good one.

One of the things that puts me off the Wagon, is the fact that its not from Korea. I'll be watching with interest to see how it stacks up.

I've had both.

57 plate crdi and 12 plate 1.4 petrol.

All i can say is both are equally as good.
Each has its own character.

If i had to choose i would like 57 plate crdi engine in the 12 plate body.

I couldn't put up with that regeneration ever 200 something miles.
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

My 2008 FD Finally cracked the 100K mark this morning.
with the exception of a minor steering column knocking that was fixed within 24 hours under warranty, have not had a single other issues. It has been by far the best car I have ever owned.
Ive had everything from a 69 Honda Civic 4spd to a 5L Commodore  Landrover Discovery, all had more then 1 issues.

But the FD, faultless :) :), and the Mrs. GD, near faultless  :p
