It is called "hot mix"because it is applied in a heated, melted form. So it's obviously designed to get soft as the temp goes up.

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
We've solved the problem here in Oz. We only have dirt roads. :whistler:

I laughed too, at first, but they do consider Bass Strait as part of the National Highway.  BTW, I was on Highway 1 today.

Launceston (Invermay to be precise).  Went to the footy, we were going to take the i30 but the threat of heavy rain meant we took the Ranger.  It went well and returned 7.8l/100km.

Yes I have seen melting roads, to the point where heavy vehicles would pull chunks out of the road, just last year on the Tonkin hwy,the road was that soft and tacky it slow Bruce down and I had a hell of a job getting all the tar spray off him when I got home.
During summer here it is a regualar thing to see melting roads especially on the heavy traffic routes, when we moved into our new freight yard a couple of years ago with 30 odd trucks, forklifts and isolators doing regular laps of the yard in summer it would be that sticker you would have trouble not sticking to the bitumen

it is common in summer for tar to get hot and soft n sticky, problem is don't park on it as hard on tyres another problem is it throws up & gets all over the side of the car. best way to clean it off is kero
