Wabbit, just be aware that a reputable auto electrician maybe able to fix your rear demister a lot cheaper than $300 if you play on their sympathy .. :winker: and the same with other probs which may arise in the next few years...

Hey Daz

Yeah I kept that in mind and I asked the warranty team, and they said any tampering not by their authorized centres will void my warranty completely, so it is a bit of a risk if say the place I take it to uses pirate parts or less than stellar workmanship. I doubt that they will ever see that it has been worked on, but it is something to consider if I ever need to make changes to the car. Hell, I mean I could have easily replaced the waterpump myself, but unfurtunately the warranty team would have a fit if they found out and I put in a claim further down the road :(

What I will do is get the list of accredited centres from them this week and find the one with the cheapest labour rates, as I am 99% sure it is just a loose wire and not the switch that is entirely buggered, as it worked intermittently before it died on me :goodjob2:

But the thing is if you can't claim for most things on the dodgy warranty, you are probably going to be ahead by just using cheaper independents to fix anything that might go wrong! :undecided:

This is true, but on the other hand they are all just as expensive! 6 of the one and half a dozen of the other

I hate how companies always try and worm their way out of paying, and this is not just when it comes to cars but for many things like insurance, cellphones, etc. but I guess in a world more interested in profits than consumer satisfaction it is to be expected.

Anyhow, I received a call yesterday from Hyundai PE and they informed me that Eqstra (warranty group) will in fact be covering the waterpump, gasket and labour but I am liable for the coolant that they need to put in. So all in all I might need to pay a small fraction in, but at this moment I am just happy to hear that there was no major damage and that only one component needs replacement.

(hopefully) final update:

I got a call from Hyundai at around lunchtime today and they told me the car would be ready by Friday for collection, and about half an hour later I got another one informing me they will have it ready for me by 3 o' clock!

I got down to Hyundai at around 16:00, and I was out the door with my fixed i30 by 16:30 - rush hour traffic. Scouted out a fuel station as the car was ridiculously empty and drove it to work, after which I went home. So far so good - the service agent did mention I must check for water leaks and the water levels every morning to make sure it is all well and that the gasket has formed a seal. Also, they seemed to have forgotten to bill me for the antifreeze that I was supposed to pay in on - so I informed the service manager who shrugged and said I should consider it a bonus and not worry about it.

So big plus to Hyundai PE for getting my wheels sorted - I would have rated them better if they could have afforded me a courtesy car as I needed one for work, and the turnaround time was a bit drawn out (but understandable due to the third party warranty).

And one last thing to note - no more whirring sound!  :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
