Hyundai Shell World Rally Team set for WRC debut at Rallye Monte-Carlo - The

In just over a year since its establishment, Hyundai Motorsport is ready to join the ranks of the competitive FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) next week with two Hyundai i20 WRC cars entered into the prestigious Rallye Monte-Carlo, round one of the 13-rally 2014 WRC season.

Much as I favour the Hyundai, they're going to have to be something pretty special to get close to VW's initail season in 2013.

Phil, there hasn't even been Foxtel coverage for the last couple of years.

You can get some abbreviated footage from the WRC website.

To date, I haven't heard anything or seen any ads to suggest this year will be any different.

That's what I did last year. Got a heap of pay sites which didn't seem to work in Oz anyway.

Agreed Trevor, we should not forget that VW ran a limited season in 2012 in preparation for 2013 though using the real events as the test bed, I think that 2014 is a learning year for Hyundai (perhaps occasionally rubbing Ford and Citroens nose in it) and that the real assault on the championship will start in 2015 where they will be looking to regularly beat the established Citroen and Ford teams and look to challenge VW, then 2016 will be all out to beat the lot of them.

I posted elsewhere on here that Channel 512 (Speed) on Foxtel is running the Monte.
Great 'coz I have that Channel.

They are running each day in a half hour presentation but also showing Stages 13 and 15 "Live" for an hour.
Stage 13 is the famous Col de Turini. No snow this year but persistent rain.
They have a mixture of in-car, fixed and aerial shots for each of the WRC cars on the 10 (+) minute stage.
Spectacular handbrake work.

One crashed out on the first stage. He was actually quickest to the first split timing mark but obviously overdrove in the conditions.
The second started slowly but was up to third when an electrical problem put it out.

There's no "super rally" provision this year so they weren't ab;e to restar on day 2.

Next event is in the snow in Sweden in about 3 weeks time.

UK enthusiasts get daily half hour updates on MotorsTV and Channel 4 also will be airing a full events highlight program the week after the event.
