A QUEENSLAND man has been nabbed in Healesville, Victoria, for allegedly riding his Harley Davidson motorbike while wearing a “novelty German helmet”.
Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Graeme Rust said he pulled the man over on Maroondah Highway yesterday when the rider was spotted allegedly wearing the headgear, which Sen-Constable Rust described as resembling an “old German helmet”.
Sen-Constable Rust alleged the helmet did not have the mandatory silver sticker on the outside proving it was up to Australian safety standards and a label on the inside warned it was a “novelty helmet” and not designed for street use.
The 48-year-old Palm Cove man was issued with a $289 fine and three demerit points for not wearing an approved helmet.
The man was allowed to drive home because he was also carrying a real helmet.
