Mazda has been forced to recall more than 40,000 cars because petrol-loving spiders are weaving webs in their fuel hoses.

The Japanese car giant discovered that the venomous yellow sac spider has a penchant for web-making in the vent hoses of the Mazda6 model, increasing the risk of fuel leaks and fires.

The spider is attracted by the hydrocarbons found in petrol

The Irish branch of Mazda have read about this and not wishing to be left out - have issued a recall themselves. This is only as a precaution, in case a yellow sac spider ever makes it to Ireland.

Last updated 8/4 (couldn't see 1/4 anywhere, but sounds like a possibility) in which case probably posted by a rival car company and could cost Mazda some sales!

I thought they might have been the Aussie Redbacks that caused a problem in Japan several years ago.
