Hi all.
This is my first post on here and if like some advice please.

At work I use the Mk1 & 2 i30s on a daily basis.
I do a bit of night driving and was wondering, is there any way of turning down the brightness on the Mk1s radio? I know there's a 'dark' button but as you probably know, whenever I change volume or start the engine, the radio lights up and in the dark, this is starting to get annoying (and distracting).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I also found the radio brightness annoying and distracting, but "luckily" the original radio was replaced under warranty with an updated unit, and subsequently the instrument illumination brightness control actually dimmed the radio illumination as well :happydance:
Originally it did not
Hope this helps :)

Sounds like it can't be done. You'd think they would have thought of this.

I don't know what a Rheostat is but I don't think there's a dimmer switch as I've checked everywhere.

Neil, I have I30 MK1 too and also haven't had rheostat. Your installation is ready to install this module for sure
Auto Part Item View : 949502L000WK (94950-2L000WK) RHEOSTAT ASSY-ILLUM CONTROL
Just remove  blind cover and you should find three wires with plug connected to it - this cover acts as a "bridge"
Yesterday I  fiiited rheostat to my I30. My situation was more complicated because I bought rheostat for Santa Fe - it has 5 pins and is more difficult to connect (but possible) and don't suit perfectly to dashboard. It was very cheap - <10 USD. Dimming works perfectly. Radio panel is too bright - during night driving it's very annoying

Pretty sure my 1.6 petrol Premium (2008) had a rheostat dimmer switch that dimmed all dash panel lighting.

The early Camry had a non-dimmable centre display - thoroughly annoying. Firty's is dimmable. :victory:

Mine (2010) has a Rheostat, it works to the dash, but has nothing to do with the radio light.   :(

Mine also has a button so you can completely shut off the radio display.....It's called "Dark".  :undecided:

Neil acknowledged that function in his original post.
As he says, change the volume, or the station, or restart the car and it defaults to "On".

Nah, mate, these threads wouldn't be half as entertaining if we all started doing that!
