back in the nineties, I was stung by a wasp and I have never experience instant excruciating pain as what that wasp did to me....... and it stayed on ...the pain that is..... totally different than a bee sting...

EU Wasps do NOT lose their sting, unlike bees, so the same one can sting you multiple times quite happliy.

I remember on a summer night there were a multitude of moths fluttering about, at dawn, the stragglers that were left, were attacked systematically by EU wasps who proceeded to land on the moths, cut their wings off with their sharp mandibles, then fly away with the moth thorax back to their nest, no doubt, to a gruesome end.

One thing I have noticed, if you spray one with fly spray, they immediately fly in the direction of their nest.

Our council will send a trained exterminator to kill any nests, you have to be fully suited up and use a red only light, then powder their nest entrance with Carbaryl. Being cannibalistic, as they die, they are consumed by their mates who are themselves killed by the poison.

I've been stung a few times by European wasps. Think I may have mentioned it in a previous thread, actually..  :undecided:
Anyways, I was stung on both ears and ended up quite crook.

Also stood on one with bare feet once and got stung for my troubles, boy, did that one hurt...  :Pout:

I got bitten by a wasp on the neck about 2 or 3 days before my 40th school leavers reunion .. was still swollen (my neck) at the reunion.. I felt pretty self conscious..  :Pout: :fum: (bloody wasps!)

@ Lakes,

I am not sure how that got here (the Wasps) or the Bumble bees.. The Bumble Bees are big (but don't seem to be aggressive)

My Late Brother Steve visited us a couple of years ago and got buzzed by a big bumble bee.. I didn't see it happen but my neighbour and Trish did and they thought he was having up fit or something (until he explained about the big bees we have)  :snigger:

Found the photos of the bees at work back around the year 2000.
The first two were taken THROUGH the glass (tinted) and by the third most had settled down so I went outside.
Remember, this is the second floor of a multi story office block in the middle of probably the second biggest business district in the Sydney area - Parramatta.
