Hi Guys,
I have seen other posts regarding this issue, but feel i must be completely blind as i am unable to locate a fuse or relay for my head lights, parkers or high beams.  I have sucessfully installed my DRL's from korea, but the universal drl harness i have purchased dims the DRL's when the head lights are on.  unfortunately it wants me to locate any positive connection to head light / side light / parkers.  so that it knows to dim  them.  I've checked the manual and the listings on both the enginebay and the drivers side fuse compartments but have been unable to locate any relay or fuse regarding head lights or head lamps, i have only been able to locate B/UP lamp in the engine bay, which doesn not work for the DRL's.  Help to locate a wire or fuse to connect this wire would be awesome. my i30 is 2012 Premium AUST.  PS there is no mention anywhere even, in the manual about the removal of the head light washer caps when removing the bumper bar

Thanks

Just an Update, ive gone back through some older posts about drl's.  There was a mention of an orange wire for parker/side lamps.  I tried that connection, no good. im wondering if the wire im looking for should be brown not orange, as they look very simalr.  well try and update,  would be awesome if somebody knows this already.

Thanks in advance again

I have a GD I30 and you are right - there is no clear indication in the owners manual for a headlight fuse.

There is a fuse in the drivers side panel titled AFLS for the adaptive front lighting system (No 34 in my book) which just might be for the headlight module - just an educated guess mind you.

Yet another update.... still not sure exactly which wire to attach the white wire.  but it looks like the DRL wireing kit i got might be faulty.  the white wire when connected to a positeive connection  turns the DRL's on not off.  i can use the Blue/yellow wires, but they expect an indicator signal, therfore will turn on and off only when there is a pulse on the line otherwise just still stays on.  however, when the car is turned off, the DRL's turn off after 25Sec's as described in the ebay item.  im sure the white wire is doing the opisite of what it is supposed to.  I just hope i havent done something wrong to cause it.

Yet again,l thanks to those who can help

Is it in the engine compartment as there are a number of fuses in a box. Not checked myself, yet.

I Got the genuine set from korea, but did as the other forum posts said and got a universal DRL wiring kit.  I like the look of DRL's at night, obviously they only need to be a fraction of the brightness. this kit is supposed to reduce the DRL's to 30% of full brightness.  easy enough to install, but still scratching my head over where to connect the DRL (White) wire for them to turn off when the head lights turn on.

I did a simple test, i connect the white wire which is supposed to turn the DRL's off stated to connect to the positive on the "Head Lamps", direct to the positive on the battery, i expected the DRL's to turn off straight away, but they didn't, when the car was off comepletely I connected the white wire to the positive on the battery and they turn on, and stay on for 10Sec after i remove the white wire from the battery.

Either its possible to put the ground and positive backwards (which i doubt) or im just no good at reading "chinglish" DRL Computer translated instructions.  I have already sent an email to the guy i baught the wiring from.  Still interested to find the head lamp, parker or high beam fuse or relay though. seems quite strange to not have it listed on both the Fuse Boxes inside and under the hood.

Hi Alan, the ALFS is for the automatic headlight adjustment.  here in Australia we have balanced head lamps so when u go up a hill or down a hill the head lights adjust marjonally to compensate, you may notice in the Premium model if you go over rail roads or harsh bumps the head lights at night seem to shake, similar to that of an oncomming  motorbike, My Dealer says that it is by design, i would have prefered the mechanical version that europe gets where you can adjust it with a button, which would have been located near the stability control switch.

I've spent a long time working out the tweaks on this car.  DRL's to start, got Veloster floor LED's to install.  will get the rear tail light LED's when the price becomes a bit more reasonable.  underbody NEON's next week.  already had Pedders lower it for me.  currently working on a Turbo Kit mod, probly be another year yet.

I'm no rev head..... I've gone from a VE SS Manual to an i30 Auto, just needs a little tweak to bring it into line.

Headlamp relays for the FD model are located in the engine compartment relay box, here is a pic from the workshop manual.

Note this is for the model b4 yours, but I see no reason for the relay location to be changed at all.

A is for Low Beam, B for Hi Beam.

I suggest that you select the appropriate relay and remove it (A). Turn on your lights to verify that you have the correct relay and proceed from there.

Just looked on eBay at these relays.  I want to fit DRLs one day so am interested in how these things work.  Seems straight forward really.

Positive and negative to the battery.  Battery voltage detected above 12.8v (at charging voltage when engine is running) turns on DRLs. Conversely, when voltage drops to 12.8v or below, DRLs will turn off after set time.  30% reduction of DRLs is achieved through white wire attached to a + power source that is active when headlights are on.  This could be any source, even parking (clearance) lights which are live (and would reduce brightness) when headlights are on.

I wouldn't be worried if brightness was reduced with clearance (parking) lights as drivers shouldn't drive with parking lights on.

Aren't they supposed to turn off when lights are selected on.

If so, I wouldn't wire them that way, rather, use a relay. Locate an IGN ON power source. Connect your available power to the NC side of relay so DRL'S are on when relay & lights are off. Power the relay from the parking light wire, it will activate and open the contacts turning the DRL'S off.

In my GD the DRLs are on when the light switch is either at Off or Parking position, and goes off at Headlights position. However, it may be different way in other countries.

I also confirm that I didn't find any mention of headlight fuses in the manual.

Phil is correct, they should turn off when park and headlights are on.  If buying one of the available relays for DRLs, avoid the relay that mentions a 30% reduction in light intensity and go for one that mentions on/off, otherwise you may have an illegal DRL installation.

Having said that, I've noticed some factory DRLs on a BMW that were on with the headlights.

You went through exactly what happened to me. I got this DRL relay from ebay that dims the LED to 30% when headlight is on. After installing it, the DRL doesn't dim at all, makes me think whether it was faulty. I messaged the ebay seller and found out that it needs minimum 3W to achieve that effect. So I assume it doesn't consume enough power to do that. To solve this problem, I went to get another relay that specifically says "switch on/off" (ebay link).

Edit: and yes, connect the white wire to the orange wire is the correct way.

Was this ever figured out? I would like to have the DRLs but they would look better if they went to 30% at night instead of completely off.
