Lila had a power flush yesterday. Trans was working fine, and now nice clean oil to keep her insides nice and clean.

Cost $384, though.

The car is out of warranty, so the fee was only for the power flush, performed independently not Hy.

Thanks for the info Phil. How many K's has the car been driven and is this "power flush" recommended rather than the simple  "drain and replace oil" like Hy and others do?

I think Hy replace at 80k, this car was a bit over as the daughter is always driving it. She has University commitments and hospital placement, so it was a bit late getting done, IIRC 82k kms. I opted for a trans specialist to ensure that the torque converter was emptied and flushed as well. It was a bit more expensive as they charge like wounded bulls for the oil but assuming thay actually performed the job properly, I know all the oil is nice and fresh.

If a drain & replace is performed, you still have a quantity of old oil in the system which contains friction material and has been repeatedly sheared severely and I don't think that is a good idea at any time. Same as changing part of your engine oil, it's just not done. I always change both engine oil and filter for the same reason. The FD Hy autos have occasionally had issues with the valve mechanism. I haven't yet and I don't want to in the future.

The other car (Ruby) will get the same treatment, she's @ 55k at present.

My auto bloke suggested you could go with the cheaper drain and replace if you did so at around 30k intervals (this would mean the oil and filter are changed 3 times to Hyundai's suggested 1). From memory the drain was around $150

Which means I had better decide if I am getting a new car or keeping this one, because I'm at 119,000k. Could be expensive if I keep her. Transmission oil replacement, serpentine belt replacement (and pulleys) and 120k service...

Once again, it depends on the type of driving. Caught in city peak hour is hard on transmissions. Little air flow and lots of low speed stop start means the torque converter has to do most of the work in initially moving the car from rest and the oil picks up friction material as the gears change. Under these conditions, the 30k option would be highly favored. As we do a lot of freeway driving, the trans is mostly locked up with excellent air flow and nearly no gear changing, due to the Diesel's excellent torque. So I'll stick with the present option.
