Hopefully, my i30 will be ready for pick up in April, so I am thinking to compile a check list, any input?
Do you test drive it before you paid the rest of the amount?

What I have in mind are:
1. No scratch/damage outside
2. No cut on seats
3. Indicator/lights/Engine/Battery?
4. Airbags. I bought Protection Pack, so how do I check whether it is installed?
5. ESP. Somebody in this forum said his car was missing ESP.
6. Spare tyre.

Here are some things to think about and check....

Inspections:-

Check the mileage. It should be low ( say less than 30km)
Check for shipping damage
Scratches on paint. Check in bright fluorescent light if possible
Dents. particularly bumpers, corners, near wheels, etc.
Check the exterior (and interior) trim for consistent color and properly affixed (no loose ends)
Condensation in headlight covers (leaking water from carwash).
Interior scratches on trim, lining, dash, etc.
Check the seats for damage. Tears, scratches, marks, etc.
Carpet, did you get mats? Do they fit right?
Check operation of Headlights, side, rear, fog, Indicators, Interior lighting & Power mirrors
Do doors close properly and securely? No odd vibrations? Same for boot. Does the boot stay up on its own?
Fan operation (all speeds)
CD player, Key fob functions. Everything moves and/or opens properly?
Do all the windows work? Do all the window controls work (from all the positions)?

Pre-Test drive Checks

Have dealer show you the proper operation of all the functions of the car. Adjust this for your own options and needs.
Fluid locations (and levels), lids secure, no apparent leaks or drips.
All wires and hoses look well secured (no last minute repairs rushed and not properly re-secured)
Tire pressures

Test Drive

Check function of heater & AC, make sure both work, even in the "off" season.
No odd noises
Car tracks well (alignment issues)
Car brakes straight
No hesitation of engine

I got these from here....

http://www.x5world.com/articles/x5/general-information/9559-vehicle-pickup-checklist.html

and here's another

http://dvlaguide.co.uk/index.php/how_to_guides/how_to_buy_a_new_car/

But remember you have a 5 year unlimited KM warranty (in Australia anyway) so if you don't pick up a less obvious problem you should be able to get it sorted later...

Dazz has it right, just like to say, when i had to pick up my i30 CRDi SX povo pack
I was very short on spare time, and my dealer could not have been any more helpfull. was the best new car experience i have had in 40+ years with say a new car or two every two years so you work that out. but i rushed in with the cash told the dealer i needed to get the car right then or would not have time till the following week. the car was still in predelivery but he got things moving quick, i only had to wait 30 min's  the car was imaculate they gave me two remote keys i never asked. they wanted to show me how everything worked but as i was in a hurry i got the sales person out of the car and left. and the i30 CRDi has not missed a beat yet 28,000 comining up soon. happy.
cheers

Thanks guys.

It appears that the full list could be quite long.

I might just check those items that are not covered by the warranty.

In Aus they were giving out a packet of plastic gloves with the diesel.. (but I didn't get those  :D)

They were also giving away a 512mb thumb drive (don't get too excited )

Otherwise just make sure you get 2 remote key fobs and hopefully an alloy spare wheel (depending on model)

I was quite amused that mine came with a box of disposable gloves and I actually got TWO 1GB thumb drives. I was highly amused. :D

I was not so lucky.

I opened all the doors, checked inside and outside, nothing wrong.

But there were a lot scratches on the body in between two doors on both side. :'(. I found this until the second day when I opened the front passenger's door, from the angle, I saw the first scratches, and then others.

Advice for somebody who is going to pickup his/her car: don't open the doors at the same time, check areas where it might be blocked by the door when it is opened, and check the area from different angles.

So you mean in the door frames?

MATS:
If you paid for mats, make sure they are the genuine i30 ones, mine are not.

i think that there is three styles of mats, one of them looks like a cheap sunday market mat,a rubber set and a factory set with i30 on them.

Got all that with my poverty pack SX Dazz but full size steel spare, would not matter as i have still to need to use the spare and have had the car over one year now.
