One of my rear doors will not unlock from either inside or outside - the lock lever just twitches when the central locking is operated.  I have tried the suggested locking & unlocking whilst assisting the operation of the lever, but to no avail. I know that this will cause my car to fail the MoT, so can anyone please tell me how to get the interior trim off of the door with the door shut, or if there is any other way to unlock the door ? i30 1.4 Style 2008 model.

Not really a do it yourself fix. Usually an actuator failure. Is there still tension on the handles?. Hopefully there is, as a broken cable would be a dearer fix labour wise than an actuator... Actuator failure is quite common in Hyundais so even out of warranty you may be able to swing a deal...

As Dazz said, not a job for the inexperienced. Heck even some experienced mechanics might shy away from this. But it's a good chance it's the actuator seeming as you can see the sniper button twitching.

Spent a good half an hour on Friday afternoon playing about with the lock & all of a sudden it decided to unlock - this gave me the chance to open the door & remove the trim. I then sprayed lube inside the lock & all around, but when I closed the door & operated the central locked it stayed locked again ! At least with the trim removed it's going to save me a bit in labour costs when it goes to the main dealer as at least they can get to the bolts on the window regulator & work from there !

Just booked car in next week for replacement actuator to be fitted - been quoted £280 all in if anyone is interested !

Not cheap.. It was the risk of stuff like that and the electric steering that made me trade the wife's low mileage 4 Y/O CW on a new Tourer!

Same reason I pushed the wife into an MD instead of a HD. Warranty is everything (and I make the most of it LOL)

I get to work on my own car, get payed for it and don't pay parts or labour (for warranty anyway) any retail work I do at home.
