I have dropped this pebble into the pond to see how far the ripples extend and to get feedback on a problem.

My 98 year old neighbour (That is not a typo - he is 98) has a 8 year old Honda Jazz petrol. He recently gave up on driving - but his live-in lady friend who is 20 years his junior has taken over.

He told me today that last year on very cold days the Jazz was difficult to start - but was OK during the warmer months. Yesterday it was very cold and the car did not start at all - the battery seemed to be run down (His words) so he called out the AA. The AA guy told him that the 8 year old battery was faulty and he replaced it with a new one.

He says that the car now bursts into life but today they noticed that the radio station pre-sets had been lost (fair enough - you expect that) but also that the (rear) parking sensors had stopped working. He asked if this was because of the battery change.

I haven't taken a look at the car - it's too cold for me to mess around outdoors - but for the life of me I cannot see why the parking sensors should go AWOL - any clues anyone. :Dunno:

Were the sensos OEM, or fitted as an accessory. Sounds like a computer has forgotten they're there due to battery change.

My guess is the sensors were standard with the car - it was the top model in the range at the time.

I am a little surprised that the sensor circuit might be linked to the ECU - My neighbour said that they just have an audio warning and there is no icon in the instrument panel. But I suppose you never know with modern cars - even those 8 years old.

That type of sensor is normally wired into the reverse lights wiring. On some when you put it into reverse it would buzz once to let you know it was activated

maybe they weren't close enough to what ever they were backing up to.

Two unlikely things came to mind. The most unlikely being that a wire was bumped while swapping batteries. But a wire relating to (rear) sensors would unlikely to be near the battery (unless it is in the boot like in my last Hybrid or my current Holden!

Or, maybe  a fuse blew when the new battery was being connected up?

May be obvious but was the car in reverse and going back towards an object and close enough to set sensor off...
