Hey Y'all,

Never owned an auto until now. Stupid knee and wrist! Trade-in moment was the happiest I had been since 2011 :D Had a 2011 Holden Cruze SRI 1.4L Manual (was a lemon from day 1).

Anyways, I have found of a morning on start up my poor car (yet to find a name!) 2015 Active 1.8L Petrol, for the first 5ish minutes it sounds like it is a diesel :S
Any ideas? or is it just an auto thing?

Also different issue/query:
On Saturday, I was siting at the traffic lights with my foot on the brake (radio on), all of a sudden the car made a funny revving noise but the rev meter did not move, it also shook the car :S
Got me a bit freaked out! Plus no-one was behind me!
First time i've ever had a car do it.

Thanks in advance everyone :D :victory:

I had the same problem with the diesel-like engine sound when I first got my 2.0 litre GDI.  However, it eventually disappeared.   I don't quite remember at what point it disappeared, but it was in the first year of ownership.

It's still quite loud at a cold-start, but it no longer sounds like a diesel, and the revs fall to normal idle RPM in less than a minute.

The transmission can not affect the sound of the motor at all. The sound may be the wrong grade of oil, (too thick), allowing some dry running for a few seconds.

As it is a new vehicle, query with your dealer, under warranty.

As Phil said I'd check what viscosity oil has been used, a full synthetic 5W-30 or 5W-40 would be ideal and Shell Ultra would be a readily available brand to stick to :goodjob2:

Concerning the revving noise, that sounds like the thermos cutting in ( more noticeable when sitting at lights idling ) and the shaking would be from the revs dropping slightly when thermos cut in but it should only be very slight, if it was bad the thermo fans might need balancing clips.

Thanks everyone.
I'll ask next week on the first 30day service.

Didn't think it would be due to the transmission type with the diesel noise but wasn't too sure. I will ask them about the oil but surly the dealer would know since they sell the darn things :S
A mechanics daughter who has no idea, who would guess? lmfao!
Glad these come with roadside, can't even change a tyre... I don't have the strength to loosen the nuts/bolts on the tyres.

It hasn't done that weird noise since, just took me by suprise.

Inappropriate clothing usually gets a tyre changed pretty quickly.  :whistler:

That could account for the strange noises. :snigger:

Sorry Kerston, just got this mental picture of all the nuts on the tread of the tyre making a racket. I knew what you meant really . Read my post in the future , you are bound to find some stuff up somewhere and you are welcome to get your own back. :snigger: Hope the noise on your car does not come back and when you get it serviced they can give you an explanation for it. :goodjob2:

It's in for its service...
Refused to start this morning! It was churning but didn't wanna crank over!
No idea what that was about!
Had to turn the key off then flicked back to on and it decided to play nice!

Please be good (yet to be named) car!

That is very odd. They are normally one of the most reliable cars! :undecided:

I asked for a Courtesy car today cause I knew they would need the car longer as it had to go get re-tinted (bloody expensive UV, cancer council approved stuff, came in the package). The sales guy stole the fuel card for the car they were going to give me so had to source another car... So I got a showroom/test drive 2015 i30 for the day!
Doesn't get much better than that!  :victory:

With all my issues they couldn't get the noise like I do of a morning but the tint people stole the car and had just dropped it off when they had it so it had been driven 20 odd minutes.

They adjusted the headlight up for me,  needed a screw driver and ratchet. No easy way with a button :(

They also reset some computer chip to do with the gearbox and engine area to help with how it did that weird rev thing. I have my dash cam installed now, so it should catch anything odd.

Think that should cover it.
Will check back in if it happens again.

Had a run of this ib gd i30 and md elantra. As i stated above, the ecu upgrade should sort it.. At first we were doing cold starts on this... but it's fairly common, don't feel bad.  ☺
