A new Jaguar car has performed a record-breaking 360 degree loop, ahead of its debut at a motor show in Frankfurt, Germany.

I don't believe for one minute that loop is record breaking. It's pure advertising hype.

I have seen video of several such stunts over the years.

Now a barrel roll - that would be far more interesting

Regarding the in car footage...

Is it me? Or does it appear that at one point the body of the car seems to sink back down on the suspension?  Almost like the suspension had fully extended... which it would if the vehicle had started to fall away from the loop - I doubt they had bumps in their loop.

On the level the car suspension would be compressed by the weight of the body.  To perform a loop  the angular velocity of the car would have to result in a centrifugal force of at least 1g on the car. When the car is upside down this +1g centrifugal force would stop the car from falling - but the weight of the body would no longer bear fully on the suspension which would extend.

As the car reaches the lower point of the circle the weight of the body would again compress the suspension back to normal when the centrifugal force was no longer present..

Next question.................... :whistler:

Thanks Rusty!!  Not really a "Barrel Roll" in the true sense.  More like an aileron roll.  With a barrel roll, at the top of the inverted part (when you are upside down), your heading should be 90 degrees off the entry heading, to then finish on your original heading.  How do I know?  My instructor used to get me to pick something 90 degrees off my entry heading and make sure I was pointing at that at the top of the barrel roll.

I am pretty sure FatBoy would, and I am, point/ing out...

That the trick isn't, technically a barrel roll either... rather transformation through all 360 degrees around a fixed point.   Or a 2D version of an aileron roll.

Sorry couldn't resist pointing it out

The first "barrel-roll" i saw with a car was in the James Bond film The Man With The Golden Gun. That was 1974 or 1975 i think.
