:( I am not happy. When I bought my Hyundai in September 2013, I replaced my black/white number plates to one of the new Bright Lights series and chose 'Blue Lagoon which is blue text on black background with no border colour. I noticed some time later that in certain light the number plate became nearly invisible. The Moulin Rouge plates are red text on black background and behave the same. Not sure what medium they used.

On 28 Sept 2015, I received a letter from NSW Roads & Maritime Services advising they have initiated a replacement program for these 2 number plates.

So I have 21 days to contact them and choose a different colour design at no cost.  I can understand their reasons but I love these plates and will be sorry to have to return them. My front plate is smaller at 372 x 84mm, the rear is 372 x 107mm
I have found a similar design with pale blue text on black background but has a blue border all round. The other difference is the sizes are much larger at 372 x 174mm for both Front and Rear.
Oh well, I enjoyed them for 2yrs.

Is anyone else here affected by the recall ?

Wow! That's an interesting one. I can understand your disappointment. One positive, you will have nice new plates at no cost.  :goodjob:

The plates always remain the property of the govt, so tell 'em to come to you and fix the problem. Cheeky b******s.

Or put a frame on.
That sounds like the easiest way. Will have to see if they make the frames in the larger plate size. I'll wait till new plates are on first as they may look ok.
If I don't hand mine in the RMS  has the power to cancel or suspend my registration.

Here is link to all designs, tho I cannot choose certain premium ones.

As a pedestrian, I have spotted one of the 'Moulin Rouge' plates on a parked car and walked away from it, counting the steps until the alpha/numerics blended into the background and became impossible to read....meanwhile I looked at the number plate of the parked car next to it...which was completely legible for over double the distance.

What brightspark thought that this colour combination was viable? And how did it get endorsed to the stage where it was actually produced...and how did it take so long for them to be recalled? Beurocracy in its purest form!

There has to be an upcoming 'Utopia' episode in this one...

Not in Qld. You own them.
But they can invalidate them I guess.
There are some black with red lettering ones up here which are pretty much impossible to read even when following in traffic.

In W.A. the govt owns them but issues a certificate (for purchased plates) of right to display so that "right to display" can be on-sold to someone else for whatever price the free market allows.

Legally (in Australia) a number plate only has to be clearly visible up to 20 metres away...  :undecided:

At a guess I would say that the dark red and black became as one at a tad over 10 metres....

"Clearly visible" is open for a bit of interpetation.

If they ARE "clearly visible" from 20 metres, why are they being recalled?
