Currently enjoying the test between Aus / NZ from Adelaide with a pink ball. By all accounts a resounding success so far. This format might catch on, in other countries too.

There's SFA on other stations and this is in HD, too.

Adelaide traditionally is a high scoring pitch, but both teams have only made 200+ in the 1st innings.

Anyone else watching ?

I'm obviously not a big cricket fan either. I had to read that three times, the first two thinking this was about some kind of funky shortwave radio reception antenna, looking like a 'pink ball'.

Back in the Dreamtime I used to watch cricket religiously.
But in recent times, I just haven't followed it at all.
I do relate to pink balls though.

I'm only watching because it's the 1st D/N match under lights.

As against a day/ night match NOT under lights?

I wonder if that might be related to the updated 9 channels causing frequency issues with so many users, if your TV doesn't have an MPEG4 decoder then you wont get the new 90 - 9HD either ( will still be able to watch on 91 )

Phil, can't see how a pink ball will change anything? will probably look like a faded red ball.

I would watch one day once in a while but, not a normal cricket test, so who is winning?

I must say i have never been to watch so might be different if your there?
Cheers

They are using a pink ball to make it easier to see at night.  A red ball would be lost in the dark background of the sky, a white ball would be lost in the white uniforms of the players (one of the reasons that One Day cricket players wear coloured clothing).

Great game until that decision. Brought the game into disrepute IMO. What's the point of watching, if that's how the umps are going to rule.  :disapp:

I can understand the umpire's decision in NOT giving Nathan Lyon out.  Yes, we can all assume that the ball hit the bat and caused that mark on hot-spot.  However, in the hot-spot footage, you do not see the ball hit the bat, causing the mark, it is out of shot.  There is no evidence on "snicko", nor any obvious deviation from any footage.  To give out, there has to be 100% certainty that it is out.  In this case, in my opinion, it is only 99%.  Therefore, the correct result is "Not out".  I remember from my cricketing days the mantra of umpires was "If any doubt, he's not out".
