Diesel prices may have just dropped to under £1 a litre, but a car mechanic has created a vehicle that costs just 2p a litre to run.

It includes a modified engine that works using a combination of water and calcium carbide, which creates acetylene gas when combined.

As well as being incredibly cheap to run, the vehicle is kinder to the environment.

Markani, from Madhya Pradesh in India, spent five years developing the idea.

A little embarrassing by the major players not to have investigated this option already. Is it really kinder to the environment.

I wonder how the water car will go as water becomes more scarce.

I recall the last Queensland drought where we were at dam levels of 16.7 and rushing to complete a recycled water pipework to supply water should we not get rain. At that level you can bet that water cars would be sitting in the garage usage banned.

Personally electricity from a renewable source has more potential.
