Hi guys .
Have any of U in uk extended your warranty after 5 years by buying in house i.e. hyundai> ( this may include breakdown cover )
Otherwise Warrany Direct , amongst others have a reasonable name.
Any suggestions please I am in North East UK

Never given it a thought as i knew someone who bought one for a used car they bought and when they had cause to claim they reject for some unknown reason.

They garage appealed and eventually they paid but only a minor %.

Their opinion was not to buy as with so many t&c's the policy was rigged NOT to pay out.

What about setting up a little savings account and paying in the premiums you would have given to the company.  Or do you not have that degree of self discipline, many don't I know

   and Asa's suggestion of putting the premiums aside is a good one too...

I worked as a car salesman for a very short period in the 90's and the after market warranty we offered had so many outs it was a joke.

There is  usually some excess, which means they will only pay a portion of something that is covered and often the repair cost is  jacked up if some "insurance" is involved, so your share gets inflated too... Not worth it in my opinion.

As an aside, recently had my 6.5 year old TV replaced under extended warranty. No arguments Replaced with the same size same brand but with all the goodies that 6.5 years of technology had added.

I bought one for my landrover defender after the 3 year warranty ran out in 2006 i kept it on every year untill it was 11 years old as it started to get expensive but for 5 years i was paying about £250 a year which was well worth it as almost every year i saved more in repairs than what it was costing me ,in fact the first year i took it out the starter motor packed in 3 days after i started the waranty and the repair was almost exactly what the warranty cost for a year was the company i used was called scotsure but have no idea if still in business

The AA (perhaps RAC too) offer garage parts and labour cover as an add-on to their roadside breakdown product. That may be worth looking into, but only you can decide in context of how reliable your car is and the reputation of the brand.

Before I chose to get a Hyundai (original intention was to get a Civic) I spoke with a few mechanics (independent garages) for their long term view of the brand. The general view was that you won't go wrong with a Hyundai. They weren't quite as positive about French cars

As always read the fine print to see what the warranty is good for.
a lot of those extended warranty only cover broken parts. it is rare for parts to break completely , mostly they just wear out. so won't be covered. with older cars i expect things like water pumps chain or cam belt timing, brakes radiator, battery ,tyres, & if it is auto a trans rebuild, manual a clutch rebuild. not to mention rust. but then again a good driver that gets car well serviced could go for many years without needing major work needed.
