Hi everyone!

We have a 2010 Hyundai i30 and we are experiencing issues with the key/ignition. Basically the key will not turn AT ALL unless you lock the steering wheel by rotating it to the right to lock it. Then you are able to move the key to start the car by wriggling the steering wheel a bit further to the right until it allows the key to move to start position.

Has anyone experienced this problem before and any ideas on how to handle this problem?

It's very frustrating having to do this to start the car each and every time.  :-[

We are Australia based, in Perth.

Any assistance is much appreciated!!

Assuming that you park the car with the wheels in the straight ahead position, the key should turn normally. If you are parked with any lateral stress on the rims, then the key will not turn. An example of this would be wheels turned toward the gutter when parking on a slope to prevent the car rolling away.

I really wish it was that - we always put the wheels back into straight position when the car is parked. Still doesn't start.

It was having intermittent problems like this and taking a while to start and now the key just wont turn at all. Like I said, the only way to make the key turn is to lock the steering wheel and then you put the key in, turn the wheel a bit further to the right (direction it has been locked in) and then it will allow the key to move into the on position.

Have you got a second key, perhaps the original is getting a little tired. On that point to, do not apply excessive force on the key as they can break at the little hinge point. They are replaceable, but you don't want that problem as well.

Still under warranty?

If so, get dealer to look at it.
