Should I use the ECO setting in the city or on long runs?

Both if you're wanting to drive economically, I haven't driven the Auto's but I'm assuming all the eco option does is change gears earlier and possibly gives a slower change as well.

If I use the eco mode in my manual I find the recommended gear change intervals are a little early/low for my liking.

My experience in most cars is that eco mode makes little difference to economy. If you can live with the reduced responsiveness and are tight (like me) leave it on all the time. I doubt it will save your hip pocket very much though.  :undecided:

Would the same gearing system in ECO also apply to the new model Accent? The 'Boss' has the 6 speed auto, 1.4 kappa engine, MY16 model.

More than likely.

I would imagine the eco mode in one of those would make for very slow progress Lester...  :undecided:

I tried the ECO mode for a couple of weeks but got frustrated with how the car drives with it on.

Hyundai claims a 7% increase in fuel economy but that would be under ideal conditions only. If you don't mind the reduced driveability then just leave it on permanently.

I agree with CraigB, I find it suggests shifting a little to early, but again on the 6-speed Manual. And it does not recommend when to shift down... Would be more useful with a green zone within the recommended rev range instead. I seem to get better economy in 5th doing 70kph than 6th which it would normally recommend me to shift into, especially since I drive a lot of hilly roads.

From my experience it turns on a little light that says eco and not much else  :whistler:

G'day young Dazz, Perhaps if I turned the ECO off, the little Accent would become a power machine, maybe there is a turbo charger lurking under the bonnet I have not yet found.
