Take me home Mr Car: RAY MASSEY tests Volvo's new self-driving V90 estate and S90 saloon

If you think self-driving cars are a thing of the future, think again.

They're on the road already. And I've just driven — or been driven by — two of them over hundreds of miles on UK roads and motorways.

Safety pioneer Volvo's new V90 estate and S90 saloon are fitted as standard with a remarkable new 'pilot assist' feature, which takes over the car's steering, braking and acceleration at speeds of up to 80 mph — or 10 mph higher than the UK maximum motorway speed limit.

It says its system uses radar and a camera to control the steering (up to 80mph) and keep the car within lane markings.

Hope they have better GPS than I have got,  if not who knows where you will be when you wake up.  :snigger:

The biggest danger in the use of self driving cars is that they still have to share the roads with conventional ones. Were it feasible, a total cut-over would have been simpler and safer.

Being a motorcyclist I have never ever trusted Volvo drivers...  :crazy1:

And now there's even more reason not to trust them...  :snigger:

Percentage wise, there will be less of them now.  :whistler:
