On the couple of hot days we've had down here so far I have found it makes a big difference if you drop all 4 windows for a bout a minute as you move off to let the hot air in the car out...then close them and put the aircon on...

My car was like a sauna this afternoon from sitting outside all day, took a few minutes to cool down with the aircon on full blast..

Have to agree with that.  I always follow that procedure on a hot day.  Dazz, I quite like the dry heat we have out where we live.  I lived in the centre for a while back in the 80s.  What we've been experiencing lately is very similar.  The cool change has moved in today and it is very pleasant.  Haven't had much rain where we are, but the radar shows there's plenty around.

I agree with Bob, i go out west and experience 45c dry heat, you just get into shade and it's not that bad, then you experience 35 & high humidity and it feels much hotter and uncompfortable than 45 dry heat. Humidity is high water content air quality is not as good.

well i'm pleased my car has been doing well thus far
i had aircon in my festiva but it would take ages to cool down during the summer and especially been out in sun, sometimes i wondered if it had died but it hadn't

so coming out from work etc - and ouch seats get hot! - the car cools down quickly and even in suit pants and long shirt etc i'm still very comfortable
i haven't had to cool down the car in anything above 34 degrees yet though
we do have high humidity up here - dreadfully high

No you don't mate - come and try Cairns at Christmas!

i lived in brissy years, never had an air con. moved to CQ and actually passed out couple of times from the heat. it is a very muggy heat we have here. i lived in a wading pol for the rest of the first summer. the next one got my first air con.

Where abouts are you in CQ?  I grew up in the capital of Central Queensland - the bustling metropolis of Biloela!

my aircon is starting to struggle more now. i noticed it more while in brissy as it was not sheltered and would be in the heat from sun-up. i think also the built up areas and more concrete etc seemed to add to the heat i was getting. i definantly noticed it more down there in the car as opposed to up here in CQ, even though generally the temps were a couple degrees lower than CQ's, the car itself was worse off.
once it does build up through the front windscreen thats when the aircon starts to struggle. i haven't bought a reflector thingy yet though. i really should.

      Pilbara

  • Here it is the Pilbara special ..... our i30 CW
Well being a native of the Pilbara for the last 5 and a bit years, it is not unusual to have the tempertures in the high 40 degrees C, even had it hit in the low and mid 50's and that's the outside temperature, so imagine how hot inside it gets inside the car.

I had a problem with my Getz, the sensor packed up and didn't work on getting to the coolest temperature. Being a Hyundai, got it replaced under warranty with no fuss.

if you are having problems cooling, that could be the problem, otherwise it could be the air conditioning needs regassing.

Our new i30 is fantastic, stock standard Pilbara special, maximum legal grade tinted windows, dash mat and air conditioning constantly on. The car is always ice cool, last trip to the next town Karratha (247km away), we actually turned the air con onto 2 to warm up (we have the SX version so manual air con)

Due to the hot heat up here, a couple of tips I learnt early on from the locals was, wind down  front windows, and rear halfway, turn on aircon to recirculate, (on face) after a few minutes of travelling the hot air is cooled sufficiently to wind up the windows.
