Hi all.... new to the site. Thought Id better post here before I ramble on in another thread.

So I sold my first car which was a 2002 Hyundai Elantra 2 weeks ago expecting to have my new i30 by now. Alas it still hasn't arrived and being in Darwin I should know that whatever you get told for a waiting time then you should double it. The salespeople at Hyundai say it's my fault cos I want the 2010 model and not the 2009 one they have in stock. Well they can stick it cos they wouldn't give me a better price on the 2009 model and I ended up going to Epac Salary Solutions and getting the car on a fully maintained novated lease and got the car at a great price through them.

They say I will receive my new car mid Feb. Fingers crossed!!

I've ordered a 2010 i30 slx diesel auto hatch in black with tinted windows

I have a few questions which I will also post in the appropriate thread:

How do I know that I am getting the MY10 model??? (I'm clueless on this)
If my car is arriving in Darwin mid-February then am I safe to assume it is the MY10?
What are the differences between the 2009 and 2010 models?

Would love to hear people's responses to these.

Hello and welcome :)

Im led to believe at the moment that the 2010 model is still the MY09 until the late feb built ones start comming in....

I was told that mine was MY10 but now i find its the MY09....

welcome aboard.  :razz:your build date is in the left hand front door jam.there is a compliance sticker near the hinge and a Hyundai build sticker, both tell you a build date. it will also be on your lease/purchase paper work,if the date you were promised isn't on the paper work or the car, don't sign anything.

Mine has the build date 10/08, but the compliance plate is 01/09.  I specifically asked for the 09 specs (traction control, stability control, full airbags) and therefore I had to wait 2 months because they had none in the country.  Mine is the MY09.  I ordered mine through Private Fleet.

You will get a 2010 year model if thats what they told you and thats whats on the contract BUT....

The "MY10" Model will have the U2 engine with the 6 speed as far as i know from what my local dealer has told me.

Just because its a 2010 "Year Model" dont mean its a MY10 "Design Model"

Welcome rockabette..

As you are getting an Auto I think you will find there is little if any difference between the MY09 and MY10 model in your case (both great cars  :D)

But if you are prepared to wait until mid feb and have specifically requested it you should end up with at least a 2010 compliance plate if not a 2010 build date (although this is possible too as I got my car on 20th March 2008 and it had a Feb Build date)

hahahaha shambles .... no seriously the salespeople at Hyundai up here were a#*holes. I was looking at the i30s in mid December and the sales dude wouldn't budge an inch on the RRP or throw in any extras. Said salesperson then tried to convince me that I should get a Peugout (Sp?) even though I specifically said there was no way I would get a 3 door and I only wanted the i30. I have called them about 3 times since my order was placed on Xmas eve (chasing a delivery date) and I am always put on hold at least 4 times and transferred around the delearship till I get to the right area.

I AM one of those people that never likes to pay full price for anything and will always ask for the best deal and try to negotiate. No harm in that I say.

Also I used to take my Elantra to be serviced at the same Hyundai dealership up here and it was always one nightmare after another. LONG story on that one but in a nutshell took my car into be serviced and have the loan battery replaced with a brand new one, took car home and the car wasn't even serviced or had the new battery installed. Took car back, got serviced went home and they STILL hadn't changed the battery.

Thanks peeps for your responses..... and FYI I did say I wanted the MY10.

Hi Hemmi....

Steaming hot as per the usual wet season weather for Darwin. Cant wait for April when the perfect sunny days roll round for another 6 months.
Perhaps you could throw some ice down our way!!!

Sorry I don't have any snow for you at the moment, you should ask our other European members, since I'm the only one not getting the harsh winter weather that europe has been suffering from in the last weeks

Yesterday was the first day with temps below 0°C in 22 days.

*sigh* our day time temperature rarely goes below 30 degrees (86F) and usually sits around 33 degrees (91.4F) almost every day. Humidity during the wet peaks at around 90%+ (like a sauna). Our coldest dry season nights the temp would fall to about 15 degrees (59F).

My Wife gets up there at least once a year to visit her Son and his kids...She loves the hot weather. I've only been up there once in October 08 I think it was (too hot for me)... :P

That's not likely. I don't think they have U2 gearbox in the Ulsan plant yet. Maybe the dealer knows better

The specs for the 2010MY Cars on hyndai.com.au are still U Engine, 5 Speed with no DPF.

October would have been hell for a southerner. The buildup to the wet season starts and the humidity is at its all time high around then. Poor bugger you should be coming up here around May - September at the latest.

I don't like long plane flights (I can't sleep in a chair) and get board easily so I think I will leave the Darwin visits to the wife... (that's my excuse)

If I can score an i30 with a 6 spd box and CC or a 2010 Sonata CRDI "R" later in the year I might consider that option
