I have never taken a lot of notice of the Hyundai 4WD models but is the iX35 replacing the Terracan or the Sante Fe or is it additional? I noticed it says 2.0 ltr diesel in the UK iX35 I thought the R diesel was a 2.2?

It's replacing the Tucson, that's why there is a lot of great run out deals out there for Tucson's at the moment

Sorry Dazz but it's not a replacement for either, but I would like to see a new Terracan.

As Dave said it is the Tucson replacement, and AFAIK will be powered by a 2.0lt 'R' Diesel, there are 2 'R' Diesels, a 2.0 and a 2.2. Currently the new Santa Fe has the 2.2 and will remain for the forseeable future, it is unknown if a 'sports package' will incorporate a 2.2 in both the ix35 and Sonata replacment.

I wouldn't mind the 2.0 R in an i30, better still with AWD! It'll never happen though.

I think the ix55 is kind of a replacement for Terracan.
But here in Slovenia, almost no one buys it. You can see quite a lot of Terracan's, a lot of Santa Fe's and even more Tucson's, but I've seen ix55 maybe two times so far and even those were owned by Hyundai dealers.. The thing about Terracan was, that it was good off-roader. But the new ix55 is just more luxuries, bigger and of course more expensive Santa Fe..so people usually end up buying the Santa Fe.

I'm really interested in how the sales of ix35 will be. As I've mentioned, the Tucson model was really successful over here, I'm afraid the ix35 won't be sold as good - just because it's so "cool"

Thanks guys.. By coincidence I got a newsletter from my dealer that reiterated Daves comment that it is a replacement for the Tucson. The newsletter also said the Sonata replacement will be released in Australia during the first half of 2010 and that there will be a Diesel i30 in Targa Tasmania..:-)

The ix-35 has a very close cousin in the new Kia Sportage.  Personally I think Hyundai and Kia are too similar and are losing any individual character they have.

I see what you mean Ben.. (The Sportage also reminds me a bit of the Nissan Dualis - which is a reasonable vehicle but doesn't seem to be selling very well)

I'm getting confused, looks like there are 2 versions of this car.

Australia seems to get the same look as US, Different headlights and not as good looking fog light area.

UK seems to get the better looking front, IMO.

The European-spec ix35 has different styling to the Korean model. Changes include new front fog lights, more dramatic headlights and higher levels of chrome detailing. LED lights are also expected to feature on the rear.

Autocar has quoted a source saying that, “The European car will get a more dramatic front end and will have a ‘bling’ factor that isn’t present in the US and Korean version. Although it won’t be as extreme as the ix-onic concept, it will have a different, more extreme front end.”

To be honest I cant see any reason why someone would choose the petrol unless you could only afford the base model.  The diesel is definitely the engine to go for.
