This poor guy is so fed up with the response from Toyota...

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2751295&p=1

Edit: Some background.

Hello good people of whirlpool.
As of the 18th of April 2018 I have owned a 2018 Toyota Corolla Sport that was purchased brand new.
I have been experiencing many issues with it, and am rather disappointed with it, especially since my previous car was a 2013 Holden Cruze and it didn't give me any trouble at all.
It has been recomended by a representative of the consumer law that I take the selling dealer to VCAT. I was hoping for some advise before I go further.
These are the issues I have had.

First Service – Rattle in passenger door, passenger door beam has a manufacturer fault and requires repalcment.
I requested a replacement car but was declined.
The selling dealer repalce door, and the rattle is still present, appears to be coming from rear door, which is what I told them. The paint job is shit and it's been back twice, yet there is still improfections in the paint.

Ehaust rattle – 8,000 km exhaust has present fault and needs replacement.

Engine rattle – engine grinding on cold startup, dealer asked me to leave car over night, the loan car broke down and I had to return it, and collect my car as they didn't have another one to give me.
Exhaust replaced another time as ems exhaust was faulty.

Transmission leak – 14,500 km Transmisson leaking from torque converter, transmission required replacement, now the repalcment transmission is shuddering occasionally, toyota can't reproduce it.

Member of Toyota sales staff called my car a lemon, so I formally requested a replacement again, I was denied.

The moment the transmission failed and required replacement I would have demanded a new one. It is a major fault and a replacement vehicle/refund should be offered.

As an aside, should have bought a Hyundai (just not a SR petrol  :whistler:)

Parking the sign written lemon outside the dealership used to get a quick response.

Wow! Thanks for that. I'm quite surprised. Corollas and Camrys are pretty boring to drive and have bland interior styling, but are generally well screwed together and reliable.  :crazy1:

Just goes to show you can get a lemon in any brand.

no good to read!
I don't think any new car or ute I have had ever gave me trouble.
I'm just wondering what country they build Corolla in??

I'm also wondering, how the name Lemon got tagged on salty car's?
I would call it Dodgy or Bodgie. Lemon is a nice fruit.

Apart from routine wear and tear, I had no problems whatever with my old 'rolla.
Guess they don't build them like they use to.

Australia sources its Corolla sedans from Thailand, while the hatches come from the export-only production facility in Shizuoka, Japan.

We've had five Corollas now. Still have two. All Japanese built.  Never an issue with any of them.

Google is your friend John. Although I know Craig is not a fan...

One possibility is that it came from early 20th century American slang, where a 'lemon' referred to “a person who is a loser, a simpleton,” as a lemon. Another possibility is that the term originated from British pool hall slang, where a 'lemon game' was a game played by a hustler.

Toyota in general are good. Lemon just implies to one or two cars that slip through quality control.
In the end, it's how the dealer and manufacturer handles the case.

It's a popular term... This guy is getting lot of publicity out of it.

From the picture in the 1st post it appears to be.

Trish's Nissan Tiida was built in Thailand and I think a lot of Hondas and other cars are too now (cheaper labour).

But being a hatch appears to be a Japanese lemon...  :snigger:

This discussion starts to demonise low paid workers, when the  fault really lies with the parent company.
Toyota HQ will devise and should supervise assembly lines that are 90% automated . Toyota made its mark by out-sourcing component manufacture to smaller companies. These satellite outfits knew that their future lay in the dependability of their product.

The virtue of the Tiida is its cheapness throughout and reliability. Little else. :whistler:
Datsun/Nissan's reputation was comparable with that of Toyota until it joined forces with Renault  :spitty:.

Together they assemble(d) my pet hate, the Navara  :spitty: :spitty: :spitty:, in Spain and Thailand. Both plants produce the same crap and complement each other by specialising in different areas of total component failure.
