"...the Hyundai i30 was a "particularly secure car" and in some cases patrols had to remove the front wheel to access the vehicle" - RACQ.

OK you tech guys. How do you access the i30 by removing the front wheel.

An interesting article but I'm not sure the RACQ should have published this little gem.
Each RACQ patrol vehicle has a laptop computer which has a data base that provides options for opening the particular vehicle they are attending
Is it just me, or can others see the potential danger in this?

i locked my keys in the i30 once. i opened the back hatch by useing the hatch only open so all door were locked just back hatch open.
i acidentaly dropped keys inside as i closed the hatch. so key was locked in. had to go home get my spare key. with the Hyundai i can push the lock button with a door open all doors lock. you could throw the key fob inside and close it and it locks the keys in. but i tried it with my falcon, it won,t lock the doors till all doors are closed so can,t lock the keys in that. just need to be careful.

I'm gonna wear my keys on a piece of string round my neck.
The 1st time I ever heard about having to take wheels of to get into a car was on whatever "Topgear" was years ago. They did the break in and drive away thing with a former car thief. He took the front wheel off one of the first Vauxhall Cavalier hatchbacks and was up the road in a few minutes. I didn't understand it then and I don't understand it now. 8)

Ok, so you get in the i30 by taking of the front wheel.  Now assuming you are trying to get access to your keys, you now have them and everything is great.  Assuming you are a thief, you are in the car, but you don't have the keys, so you are unable to start the engine as it has a security chip that must be programmed correctly to match the key (which you don't have).

So, get it, what's the use.

if a car thief wants a car bad enough,he will get it. Ive heard of people finding tyre marks on the ground where their car was but no car,it had been dragged onto a tilt tray truck and it wasn't seen again.

If they are that desperate, nothing will stop them.  Not even the best security system man has made or is likely to make.  Even wheel clamps wouldn't keep the car safe.  Such thieves will not bother about the front wheel removal to get in a car.

But someone wanting a joy ride in my i30, they would get nowhere with the front wheel trick as the couldn't start the engine without the matching key chip.  Think about the ix35 and new Santa Fe.  They are fitted with push button starting.  Doesn't matter.  If you don't have the key, you can press the button all you like.  It won't start.
