Just took delivery of a new 2009 i30cw 1.6CRDi Special Edition in Steel Gray.  For those of you not familiar with car prices in Norway, I'm about to make you very, very happy with your purchase -- even if your dealer was a thief!  :D  Our drive-away price, including registration, a set of summer tires on alloys, and a tow bar, amounted to just over US$ 43,000.  That's cheap here, and only possible because it was a 2009 model.

The Special Edition (don't know if it was available everywhere) has some extras like navigation, rain sensing wipers, and rear backup sensors.  I'm not sure what else was standard and what was SE only.

I'm missing is the top cubby, although the dealer can add that for US$300.  (Anyone know where I can source one?  Can't be too hard to install.

I'm also missing cruise control and bluetooth.  I'll probably add a Parrot myself, but to have the dealer add cruise is US$1,775!

Hi kman and welcome to the club!  :)
Nice choice of car!
Did you paid about 256000 NOK? That must have been really cheap in Norway...
I paid 185000 SEK for my 2,0 CRDi CW 2009 "comfort plus" with engine heater, internal heater and a towbar mounted.
I have heard that a car in Norway is much more expensive compared to Sweden...

Cheers!

Close.  It was actually 259,000 NOK.  That is cheap in Norway, primarily becuase of the small displacement and low emissions.  A new Volvo XC90 V8 Executive is 1,439,000 NOK without any options.  That's US$238,000, or AU$260,000.  And it still seems like everyone is driving one.  I'll stick with my wonderful i30cw!!

A question from a dumb (naive) Aussie.
If the British can go to some European countries and buy a car (in RHD) and take it back to the UK, why can't you do the same with a LHD?  Surely it would be cheaper (including a holiday).

i think you need a special permit to do that.in oz you can have a lhd in half of the country but need a special permit in the other half.

You can import a car from elsewhere, of course, but you have to pay the taxes and duty when you bring the car in.  Since that's the biggest part of the price of cars here, there is no real savings.

Before 2002 or 2003, you could bring in one car tax free when your moved to Norway or if you were away from Norway for several years.  You then had to keep it for a few years before you were allowed to sell it, but you could make a huge amount of profit that way.  In the early 90's, I had a Scottish friend who lived in Thailand but was moving to Norway.  He shipped his new car and motorcycle to norway, figuring he would get the car in tax free.  It turns out that the vehicle you got tax free was the first vehicle that arrived.  Needless to say, his motorcycle arrived first.   :'(
