Plovers have been nesting in the reserve opposite us.
Last year , 4 chicks and all survived to adulthood.
This year, 4 again.  The whole family on our front lawn. Hopefully they all make it this year too.

We have several pairs that have regular nesting sites. But in past 15 years, I cant remember ever seeing a chick. Possibly because this is also the territory of three wedge tail eagles.
They took a fancy to our ex-neighbour's  free range chooks. Poor hens would be snatched and taken up to near the Qantas flight path and then dropped, then retrieved later.

We've got sea eagles, square tails etc here. Think it helps that they are in the middle of the  reserve opposite where all the roos are. Roos keep about 15m clear when plovers are egg sitting.
So, chooks can fly !   . Not exactly de-boned but still easy pickings.

Not exactly gliders, but they would take flight if they realised the eagles were onto them.
Neighbour was not amused. Even less so when she came home one day; someone had left the back door open and yes, Eagles were about.
Neighbour found a dozen shitting chooks perched on her bed-head.  :snigger:
